DonnaMaria 0 Posted October 12, 2015 I am having revision from band to sleeve January 5th. Is it better to get the band out first?
liannatx 897 Posted October 12, 2015 My surgeon said there was a 50/50 chance that he would be able to do the revision in one surgery. In my case, once he got in there to remove the band there was too much adhesion and scar tissue for him to feel comfortable doing the sleeve at that time. He cleaned out as much as he could and did band removal. He advised waiting several months to let my stomach recover a more normal shape, and to let me heal, and then we did the sleeve 5 months later. I would have preferred to have it done all in one surgery... but in this instance I valued his medical expertise and opinion more than my own convenience! NoMoBand 278 Posted October 16, 2015 Same here. My doctor said that if there was too much to clean up, I would wake up with only band removed. My outcome was in my favor and woke up unbanded and sleeved. So glad I got revised to sleeve! If you have to wait and get the sleeve months after, it's worth the wait. A 2nd surgery is the only thing that sucks, but, the surgery recovery is not bad at all. Much luck to you.
Bndtoslv 292 Posted October 16, 2015 I had mine in 2 parts. My doctor wouldn't do it any other way. He said it reduces chance of leaks and increases likelihood of well-shaped sleeve.
