lectus 3 Posted October 12, 2015 It's been only two weeks after surgery and I totally HATE those chewable Multivitamins. I take Bariatric Fusion so at least I just have to take on tablet four times a day. But seriously, why can I take regular Vitamins? Is it because the stomach is now too small and it won't fit? ShrinkingPeach 1,291 Posted October 12, 2015 I started out on bariatric chewables but then switched to over the counter Vitamins. I never had a problem swallowing pills after surgery. Ask your support team, my nutritionist switched me.

JamieLogical 8,713 Posted October 12, 2015 I was allowed to swallow pills 7 days post-op. Never had to do chewables at all....

Beachsprite 118 Posted October 13, 2015 I was swallowing pills hours out of surgery it was fine but a tad sore. \ Although I can't tolerate Multivitamin pills for some reason within 5-10 minute of having one i vomit. So been having chewables but just ordered some official bariatric chewables which should be of better quality than the ones I've been having.
mrsbailey921 117 Posted October 13, 2015 I was told to steer clear of pills because many of them will clear the digestive tract before being fully broken down by the body. Yet I also hate chewables. My current solution is to crush them and then swallow them in two separate gulps along with Water. Ugh.
Jessicacherry3 71 Posted October 13, 2015 Have you tried gummy vitamins? I couldn't tolerate the chewables but the gummies sit just fine. Good luck!
jane13 2,256 Posted October 14, 2015 I was told no gummies for a while. chewable were ok.
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted October 14, 2015 I was told to steer clear of pills because many of them will clear the digestive tract before being fully broken down by the body. Well, you should definitely follow your doctor's orders, but I didn't seem to have any problem absorbing the contents of pills in my early days post op. As I mentioned, I was cleared to swallow large pills at 7 days post-op. I was allowed small pills (birth control, pain meds, and anti-nausea meds) immediately post-op. I was instructed to break open my multi-Vitamin and omeprazole pills and mix into Water or "food" those first 7 days. I didn't take any Calcium until I was a week out and allowed to swallow pills. I had blood work done at 2 months post-op and all my levels were spot on. Plus I didn't get pregnant (though we did use condoms the first few weeks, since I was on anti-biotics immediately post-op). So I must have been absorbing my pills just fine.
Margie122 845 Posted October 14, 2015 I agree they are disgusting and I hate them too (but I take them!) I'll be cleared for regular Vitamin pills at my 3month visit in November. WOO HOO!
Linaka 92 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) @@lectus Why don't you try the PatchMD Vitamins? They are working great for me. Just put a new patch on everyday. Edited October 14, 2015 by Linaka
lectus 3 Posted October 14, 2015 gummies are not allowed; I believe the don't contain Iron (or so I read). Anyways, I found a solution to the Vitamins and Protein intake problem (for now). I buy fresh strawberries and blend them with Water to make juice. I pour a portion in a portable mug with the protein I need and four Vitamin tablets (crushed). I then let it chill and take with me. I love it! Hmm... I wonder when I'll get tired of it though.
