Packing for the hospital

Recommended Posts

Less than you probably think. The hospital will have pretty much everything you need. My list of critical items:

  • one device for communication/entertainment - you don't need a phone and a tablet and a laptop and a Kindle! Just make sure you bring a charger with an extra long cord.
  • lip balm
  • case for your glasses if you wear them
  • soft cotton sports/leisure type bra (NO UNDERWIRE!) that fastens in front
  • make sure that whoever is taking you home brings a pillow so that you can put it between your abdomen and the seat belt.
  • extra undies for however many days you will be there
  • make sure that you wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes to the hospital and plan to wear them home.

The hospital should be able to provide basic toiletries, socks with grippy bottoms, gowns (much better for walking the hall, you can't really use your robe/PJ's if you are dealing with IV's and drains, and do you really want IV and drain Fluid all over your favorite robe? Just wear a second gown backwards for modesty), any OTC meds you might need, feminine hygiene supplies if needed, all that sort of stuff.

You won't need much. Slip on shoes, loose clothes to wear home. Maybe a small pillow to make driving home a little more comfy (put between you and the seatbelt). Toiletries to freshen up. If you have an iv in, you won't be able to use a robe. Chapstick.

Best wishes to you!!

The hospital I work at we encourage people not to bring items. All items will need to be inventoried to make sure nothing gets lost. That said I plan on bringing my iPad, charger and glasses. I will go and come in the same clothes. and I am wearing a sports bra with no underwire.

The hospital should give you pretty much whatever you need. Definately have some loose soft comfy clothes to come home in. I got a couple of pairs of sweat pants in a size bigger than I would normally wear so the elastic would be looser against my tummy. I'm glad I did because no matter what the elastic was hitting my major incision and sometimes it hurt

Bring a credit card to pay for prescriptions & Vitamins you might need to bring home, I forgot to bring one thinking I only needed an id and insurance card. If you have a heating pad, this was helpful since the hospital rooms are so cold. It the heat also felt good on my belly and my swollen hand with the iv inserted. I also suggest gas x strips and a toothbrush (which I used to help me gag to burp).

The hospital provided all toiletries which was great. I did bring a pillow and loose clothing too. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
