Help I am SO hungry!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Monday, October 5. It was very hard to eat initially because of the restriction, but I took it very slowly and eventually took in the requisite amount of fluids. Now I am home and having Protein Shakes, fluids like Soup, Water, etc.

Problem is I am hungry all day! My stomach is growling non-stop, even to the point of hurting - even after I have eaten and feel physically full. The PA said to try some yogurt or sugar-free pudding but there aren't really helping.

I am frustrated and didn't expect hunger to follow me out of surgery. Help anyone???

Are you sure it is hunger? My sleeve growls all the time and has some discomfort, but I think it is more the food moving through, not hunger.

I am two weeks sleeved.

You will be on purees soon, and that will make a difference. I tried baby food but it was so bland, so my boyfriend who eats Mediterranean style (from Malta), took whatever meat and low-starch veggie he was eating and put it in the blender with a little broth.

Having familiar flavors really helped me get over my food funeral misery. At your stage I could only tolerate about 1/3 cup of food at one time, but by the time I was on regular cooked foods (4 1/2 weeks) I could eat 1/2 cup. Closing in on two years, I can eat a cup if the food is not too dense, a bit more if it is lighter fare like a green salad.

Hang in there kiddo. Think of your bariatric aggravations as a right of passage to a new healthy you. I wish you good luck and good health.

Does shakes and Soups count as daily requirement? I can hardly get down 2 oz each meal.

I know this sounds really stupid, but how do i post a question or comment on my own and not just in a timeline convo? I use my phone!

Miss Mac - thank you for your supportive note. After putting so much into this it is so hard to have hunger as a symptom, but I am trying to stay with the process and to be optimistic!

If my stomach stops growling it will be a victory!

to BCs1000 -

I think it's hunger because it does feel like hunger pangs and is very uncomfortable. Maybe the doc will tell me otherwise...

It could be acid. You might want to take an extra dose of your omeprazole.

The reason I don't think mine is hunger is that eating doesn't take the grumbling feeling away at all.

Does eating provide you with any relief?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
