Starting my adventure

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am beginning my journey and I found these forums and I hope you can help me.

So I'm not quite sure how intros go here so I will just wing it

I am a 34 year old mom to two boys. I love my boys and my husband. I am also an AppleCare senior advisor. I have been over weight my whole life. But I have reached my all time high after having a total shoulder replacement due to trama.

So far:

I have chosen my surgeon, and have had my first meeting with him. It was not a one on one but I'm confident.

I have talked to my insurance company and have there list of requirements,

I have talked to my REGULAR DOC. and I am 2 months in to the required 6 month Doctor managed weight. My next appointment with him is Monday.

I have the support of my husband ( who is also considering the surgery)

I have told my mother in law which was a neutral expiriance

I have told my parents and that went much better than expected. My mother had a band and had to have it removed due to blockage and a horrible doc.

I have told 2 friends one was extremely supportive. The other freaked out. I probably won't tell anyone else.

I would love to know what kind of diets your docs put you on before surgery. I have done a TON of research and I feel that I am ready for this. Firmly grounded in reality.

Hi I'm about the same time frame as you. The diet my nut put me on was basically Atkins/south beach but with fruit and whole grains. I've lost a little bit of weight and I feel awesome how do you feel so far

It has been a roller coaster. My weight is fluxuating all over the place but at th start of the 2 months and now I weigh exactly the same. But have lost as much as 7 lbs. my hormones are a mess and I think that is what is causing the weight flux. But besides that I am gaining a sense of peace about my decisions and my emotions have defiantly improved.

That's great about the sense of peace. My best advice is to take it one day at a time. I have to remind myself that my bad habits didn't develop in one day and won't go away in one day either

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
