No protein & no vitamins, is it a problem?

Thank you all for the advice, after having read your replies I've gone out and brought a load of Protein Shakes and surprise surprise I have a lot more energy so thank you all for the wake up call. I was stupid for not realising it was necessary

And also I was just wondering if Vitamin Water is ok to drink, it says it contains 15 grams of sugar so I'm not all that sure

Nope, not good. 15g would be bad (that's a scientific/technical term)

No Vitamin Water. Use that valuable real estate in your tiny tummy for water and Protein. The program is tried and true - just stick to what they told you and you're bound to succeed and feel much better.

My NUT says "stick to double digits for Protein and single digits for sugar" when it comes to liquids. Even if it's not a Protein Drink, it needs to have single digits for sugar/carbs. By the way, I think those bottles of Vitamin Water are two servings, so it's more like 30g sugar when you drink the whole thing.

CALL MY NUTRITIONIST MONDAY MORNING AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

Please.

Protein is your new main food. Vitamins are being supplemented because you need them, too.

Make that call.

Protein is absolutely essential to life. You will DIE without it. But before you die, you will feel weak, you will get sick, your hair and teeth will fall out..... It is NOT optional.

Vitamins are also incredibly critical, especially early on post-op. There is no way you can possibly get all the Vitamins and minerals you need from the small amount of food you are eating in those early weeks/months, so it is critical to take supplements to ensure you do not develop any deficiencies. Just like with Protein, lack of critical vitamins and minerals can lead to SERIOUS illness, Hair loss, bone density loss, and death. So take your vitamins!

Drink Propel. No calories, no carbs, and the grape flavor is yummy! Much better for you than Vitamin Water.< /p>

I would say get the zero version of vitamin water. It is still good but no sugar no calories :) my nut approved it but check with yours

Hi all,

I'm two weeks out and have not had any Protein shakes or Vitamins so far I feel fine and not having any complications. Is it ok to continue on with this? Are there any dangers if so what are they? I don't want to exclude this part out of my post op guidelines and end up having problems after so would really appreciate some advice.

I have not had this surgery yet, but have been doing my homework. From what I have read, nutritional deficiencies, and their consequences, are common. Just a follow up, today I saw my doctor and he prescribed me all the Vitamins I need I am also now drinking Protein Shakes although they make me heave and taste horrendous. I am still looking for the right Protein product that I will be able to tolerate a bit better. Thank you all for the info I'm glad I asked the questions as I would've still been going without if I didn't I'm really grateful thank you.

Oh and the doc also gave me additional advice, I was told that Vitamin C helps with excess skin as you lose weight which i didn't know at all and since it was news to me I thought I'd give you all the heads up too incase you didn't know.

I'm truly blown away by this post. Did you not see a NUT or doctor before your surgery? I'm just shocked that they didn't explain the importance of Protein and Vitamins are to you. You need to be getting in no less than 60g of protein and 64oz of Water. Plain simple water. Please get out of bed and start moving around, the risk of DVT is so high.

Hi - I see that you are having a lot of trouble with vomiting. I understand that complicates things of course. If the vomiting persists, I would see the doctor about that. Vomiting itself causes problems, and from what I have read, vomiting is common in the initial days, but if it persists, could be telling you something.

Fortunately your diet should be transitioning in the coming weeks to allowing more options as your stomach heals, and you should be less dependent on the Protein Shakes. If a whole one makes you vomit, then try drinking just a half and throwing the other half out. You're better off keeping down half a shake than vomiting up a whole one.

You likely got something like this, but if you'd care to have a look, here is a link to the post-sleeve dietary recommendations from Brigham & Women's Hospital. They are roughly a top-10 hospital overall, so very good.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
