Throwing up for no reason

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 months post op and for the past month I have woken up three times by extreme nausea and then throwing up. I don't have anything before bedtime so I don't have a full stomach. Nothing comes up other than clear liquid. Last time it happened was yesterday at 4am. Does anyone else go through this?

I'm going through this now and have been hospitalized five times since my surgery on 9/4. They never know the cause and keep putting me on meds, but finally they are thinking it may be my gallbladder. I should have results tomorrow after a scan they ran on my gallbladder today. But definitely talk to your doc and go to ER if u need to. You can get dehydrated easily from not being able to hold down liquids. Good luck to u!

Daveo, Sounds like it might be acid reflux, does the liquid you bring up have an acidic or bitter taste? If it is i'd go and get it checked out.

It could be acid. Are you on a PPI? I would call the doctor and get it checked out.

Since you aren't eating my wife's cooking :), then maybe they should be checking (as previous posters wrote) for too much acid, acid reflux, gallbladder, etc..

Is there a pattern on when this happens (you ate food higher in fat, drank too much regular coffee, a very emotionally stressful day, etc.)?

I hope they find the cause soon.

Thank you all for your comments, I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor and see what it is. I don't take any meds and I don't think it's what I'm eating but I'll see.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
