gpmed 623 Posted October 10, 2015 Everyone's program is different, but mine allows us to slowly begin trying soft foods (anything you can mash with a fork) with approval from the team at our 3-week follow-up appointment.
Ashlegal 525 Posted October 10, 2015 I never had a pureed phase. The first seven days after surgery I was on a clear liquid, Protein shake, strained Soup, sugar free Jell-O, broth and sugar free popsicle diet. Then on days 8 and 9 I was cleared to move onto low fat cottage cheese, plain yogurt (not pieces), sugar free pudding, creamed Soups, soft cheeses and the like. By day ten I was given the green light for soft Proteins, soft scrambled eggs, canned tuna, shrimp, salmon, imitation crab, ground turkey, moist chicken, lean deli meats in addition to yogurt, pudding, creamed Soups, soft cheeses. At a month I could add well cooked veggies, fruit without skin (canned was recommended) and to add small amounts of milk with Protein (Fairlife) into my diet. I have handled everything with ease outside of not chewing well and eating too fast. I have to time myself plus eat from a toddler sized spoon. I take a small bite every two minutes and once I slowed down, I had no problems with anything I was given permission to eat.
Daisee68 2,493 Posted October 10, 2015 Everyone's program is different, so you have to wait and see what your doctor says. I had Clear liquids a few days, then full liquids and was released to "soft foods" at 15 days post-op to last until 6 weeks post-op which dr said was anything I could mash with my tongue. I chose to do pureeds for the first couple of weeks and then tried to transition to soft meats like tuna and tilapia but it did not work for me. I had to stay with pureeds for quite a while. When is your surgery? You will need to definitely keep touching base with a NUT to have a plan to go on a vacation in December.
StephOnTheMove 22 Posted October 10, 2015 Wow that sounds nothing like what my plan is like .... I'm on day 10 post op and I cant start my full liquid diet until day 12..... Then i'll be on full liquids for 3 weeks..... then pureed... then soft foods... but i think each phase with my program is like a month...
