Round & Round I Go!

Recommended Posts

I feel like I am on a merry go round and I know it isn't taking me anywhere but I can't get off. Not trying to whine or get on a pity party but I am truly upset with myself. Finding myself getting back into the same rut of putting myself down and talking about how darn fat I am. I AM NOT LOSING! I can't see what I am doing wrong because I eat very little. In fact I can't eat much before dinner. Breakfast and lunch seem to be something of the past. What I am eating doesn't seem to stay down very long. Finding myself going to soft things and I know that not all of them are low in calories. I wanted to go back to work after the summer and at least look like I lost some weight. Now....if I carry the picture of before the surgery around my neck you would probably be able to tell. All I seem to get from my family is ..."I can tell in your face." Darn I want it to show in several other places that are much larger than my face!

I am down that I really haven't lost but maybe 5 lbs in 2 months.

I wonder if it was worth it......

Totally I have lost 40 lbs 6 months. Close to half of that was before the surgery.

Now comes the part where I stop and ask how do you get back up again? I just wish I could get over this huge hump! Whew....I feel a little better.

Anyone been there and got through it? HOW? I truly want this to work but think I must be doing something wrong.

Just getting back from vacation and seeing people in bikinis might have escalated the need of urgency in my cry!

Hey Tinker,

I hear the frustration in your post! Please remember that this band is not a miracle maker but a tool. I too am 6 months out and have lost 48 lbs. I know for a fact that when my weight loss slows down or stops it's because i am not moving enough or i'm eating bad stuff. It's so easy to eat bad carbs and stuff like that because they go down easy. Make sure you are getting your Protein in every day - and that means drinking a shake for breakfast. You have to start up your metabolism with something in your stomach first thing in the morning. Get something down around lunch if you can that's healthy and with protein and make sure you eat your last meal a few hours before bedtime. Drink your Water, take your Vitamins and excercise as often as you can and you will see the pounds drop. If not, you need to see your doctor!! Hang in there - remember that you are 40lbs lighter - would you be if you didn't have the band? Think of this band as the blessing that it can be and make it work for you - take control and rejoice at each smaller size that you buy! good luck!

Thanks for the words of encouragement.Today is a new day and I am trying to approach it as an opportunity to get back on track. I am just scared that I am going to "fail" at this as if it is a test. I am sure I need to watch closer the things that I can seem to keep down They aren't my best choices of foods. Thanks again and I hope you have a good day.

Tinker I agree with Luckygirl. You may be eating very little, however, it could be the amount of calories. Also, the Protein is Key. It will give you the energy and nutrition you need. If you can only tolerate soft foods, try having a Protein Drink. I use a strawberry Protein powder with 22 grams of Protein in one serving and there is only 110 calories. Add that to 1/2 cup of lite apple juice and about 5 frozen strawberries and a scoup of ice in a blender and you have a great smoothie for under 200 calories and a ton of protein. Most importantly, do not skip meals. By missing meals and eating very little, your metabolism is thrown completely off and your body will become accustomed to this which will slow the weight loss process to a snails pace. You need balance and you can do that while eating small portions. Be sure to take your Vitamins too. Just remember PROTEIN FIRST!!!!

Good luck and remember you can do this! We are all in this together and the support is so important.

I try to eat right and get my Protein in but when i need a snack I either go for a 100 calorie pack of popcorn (my band loves popcorn) or some FF pringles or something like that. I find that i can only eat a little and my stomach starts to turn which is my band saying, "okay that's enough." Shelly is right - make sure you are eating 3 meals a day so your body is getting fed. If not it will go into starvation mode and not let go of a pound!! take care~!

Thanks....I am going to try the Protein Drink. Sounds like a good way to jump start the day. I didn't realize how much this support meant to me. I know I am not the only one going through this but at times I feel so consumed by "weight thing." Today has been good. I really do appreciate the advice.

Here's to lighter days!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
