Hi Sleevers,

I'm now almost 10 weeks out, incredibly slow weight drop 41lbs total loss so far. I keep losing and regaining despite the fact that I eat less than 500 calories daily, exercise, get over 70g of Protein daily and about 80g of liquids. But that's not why i'm posting this.

I have a question regarding Soups. Not just liquid, but with some meat and veggies in it. Are we never allowed to consume Soup again because it's considered liquid with solids?

Check with your dietitians instructions or call them. Soups are fine with my program.

@LoosingIt67 You're good. It's fine to eat Soups with meat, veggies, Pasta, rice, etc.

On my plan, we are not allowed Soup. I have heard that some other plans allow you to drink the broth first, straining out the meat/veggies, then follow by eating the meat and veggies from the soup. Or, you can pick out the meat and veggies, eat them, wait 30 minutes, and drink the broth.

But, since soup isn't allowed for me, I just don't eat it anymore. I find that I don't really miss it.

My plan discourages Soups, at best they say to strain out the excess liquid and just eat the solid bits.

My problem with Soups it that it just doesn't provide that much in the way of Protein. I've been eating soups since week 3 (allowed on my plan) but I put it in my Magic Bullet to get rid of all the chunks and then add a scoop of unflavored Protein.< /p>

I know this doesn't answer your Soup question but I think 41lbs in 10 weeks is fantastic! You should be proud. Also - WHY are you only eating 500 calories a day? Does your NUT want you on a diet that low in calories? That could be why you are losing/gaining.....I would check with your NUT. 500 sounds too low at 10 weeks out to me - but that's just my humble opinion.

What does your NUT advise?

I don't eat Soup very often but I am no longer on liquids only. Because I have the sleeve, I don't have the strict no liquids with meals rule that bypass folks have so soup is fine. I just avoid noodles and rice. I prefer chili. But, I have had chicken tortilla soup (without the tortilla) at a restaurant.

I will repeat a question from above. Why are you only eating 500 calories? Are you getting in all your Protein and fluids? Getting in all your Protein and fluids is much more important than restricting calories for healing and weight loss.

I also agree that your weight loss so far seems great. I'm not sure why you think that you haven't lost much. You may need to recalibrate your expectations.

I am allowed all Soups now but don't typically eat them because they are not a great source of Protein. As for the 500 calories, I would not sweat that. My NUT recommends 600-700 until maintenance and I average around 500. Keep up the good work!!

@@heidikate typically Protein Shakes make you feel full immediately (6 weeks or so) after surgery because your stomach is still swollen after surgery. People vary in how swollen or bruised their stomach is, just because of differences in surgical technique and what their natural response is to the trauma of surgery. So, some people will get very full on Protein shakes for weeks after surgery, while others might be able to pretty much drink an entire Protein Shake a week after surgery with no problem and no restriction. But eventually, protein shakes will no longer provide much satiety at all for pretty much everyone.

My Protein shakes fill me up, but they are shakes I make myself typically before heading to the gym. It's usually Protein powder, greek yogurt, and whatever mix in I have on had. Sometimes that's nut butter, sometimes a bit of rolled oats, sometimes a handful of spinach. I've even added baked sweet potato or pumpkin puree.

I think 41lbs at 10 weeks is a good weight loss and eating 500 calories a day is fine. I was eating between 400 - 600 at that point as instructed by my NUT.

I was allowed Soup during all liquids and always added a scoop of unflavored Protein to it. I am allow regular Soup now and have been since week 6 when I was allowed to eat whatever I could tolerate.

This is a good question!

I've been wondering about this.

Since we're not supposed to drink with our meals bc it'll wash the food out, causing us to eat more, wouldn't the same thing happen with puréed Soups and Protein Shakes?

Protein shakes wouldn't cause you to feel full?

Liquids do not wash food out of your stomach, they actually fill you up, therefore you are unable to eat as much at that particular setting. So, the less food you are able to eat, the less nutrients you absorb.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
