Feeling hopeless

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted. I was banded July 2014. Lost 35 lbs. In the last 3 months I've gained 10 pounds back :( writing it makes me cringe. It's not because of the band not working, it's because of me and my addiction to fast food.< /p>

Can anyone give me some advice or a good word to help motivate me. I don't know what to do.... I mean we all know what we SHOULD do but the power of flavor takes over my brain. HELP :(

When you go out for fast food, can you try to make better choices? I will have a burger etc. but I do not eat the bun, and I won't eat the french fries.

You might need a bit of an adjustment in your band if you are able to eat these items too easily. You can enjoy your food just a bit less of it and modify it a bit to be more friendly to your band and your ultimate goal.

Ugh I have a similar problem. Not with fast food but I LOVE EATING OUT. I really didn't like cooking at home bc I never knew what to make but I started cooking at home the same things I would eat out... if I went to carrabbas for chicken marsala. I'd make it at home but a "healthier version " or apple bees boneless wings I'd make at home... can you try doing that? Cooking at home healthier but similar versions of fast food.

I have a similar addiction to fast food and eating in general. So I understand. For me food is my stress relief so I've had to basically abstain from all my trigger foods and eat at home, and try to do mindfulness meditation and exercise to control my stress level. If my stress is dealt with in a healthy way I don't want to eat as much. Also getting adjusted to the right point and getting into the green zone will help you regain control. I lost 40 then gained back 5 and have felt out of control, I just had my first fill last week, I hadn't needed one before that. I think it's just an up and down process till you reach your goal. Even if you stumble a bit it doesn't mean there is no hope. I try to remind myself of that so I'm less hard on myself. But I really understand how you feel.

@@Nicole_NYC sorry you are having such a difficult time. Fast food is designed for addiction -- all those chemicals. How about an appointment with your doctor to make sure you're in the green zone. If your appetite is properly dimmed it will be easier to make good choices but you will have to do your part, too, by avoiding those kinds of places. Have you read Fast Food Nation? It may be a movie as well as a book. The chemical processes involved are pretty horrifying.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
