Hi Everyone,

I had my band put in on the 29th September. I really had hardly any idea what I was doing. I went to my doctor told him I was sick of my yoyo diet and he recommended the "LapBand"

Even with my surgeon who has been rated one of the best, I could not think of any questions and actually thought. Yes the "LapBand" I will have a small appetite.

Was I in for shock at all that comes with it and the work that needs to be done to maintain this little piece of equipment that I have adopted. Its really hard work!!! I so admire all the of you during your courageous journey to health.

My next review appointment is next week so that will be 2 weeks and 1 day since my OP. Seems like its been months!!

Its sites like this that have given me so much more information and help than all the medical team that comes with the "LapBand"

Thats the surgeon, dietician, anaesthesia (sorry can't spell that one) and the heart and sleep specialist etc.

Just like to say Hi. And go on to reading more through all the posts and joining in as well asking questions.

Yes it's work, but worth it. It's the first time in my life I've been able to keep weight off. Good luck and stay connected.

Hi there, the links in my signature below really helped me understand how the band works and how to work the band; maybe they will help you, too. Congratulations on having the surgery behind you. This is an exciting time. I'm actually still really excited and it's been almost two years for me -- wonderful getting my life back. I'm having so much fun and did not realize how much I had been hiding out before, embarrassed about my weight and generally discouraged. Not anymore! Good luck with all that is ahead. Keep those appointments and keep listening in to your body.......

Thankyou everyone for the warm welcome.

Bandista those links are great. I have already seen the 8 golden rules but the other link was quite informative and really made things sound so much better.

Obviously we're not doctors but I agree with you that the information on this site from other bandsters goes a long way in helping and supporting. I too found more help here in terms of what to expect than anything I 'learned' at my surgeon's office. Welcome to the site and hopefully we can help you in your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
