Hospital Angeles, Tijuana, Mexico

Recommended Posts

I've decided to have the gastric sleeve procedure. Since my insurance doesn't cover it and I can't afford $20,000 to have it done in the states, I'm considering Mexico.

From what I've researched, Hospital Angeles Tijuana is supposed to be a state of the art facility. I've also read very good things about both Dr. Juan Lopez Corvala and Dr. Louisiana Valenzuela. Please share with me your experiences with either doctor or facility and feel free to make other recommendations based upon your person experiences. Thank you

I am also deciding. Can you share with me why you chose those doctors? I talked to Dr Kelly yesterday and got the info from his coordinator. I agree on that hospital. I read the reviews and talked to a few people who have been there.

I like that Dr. Corvala is internationally recognized and the amount of experience he has under his belt. I've not read a negative word about him. I liked that Dr. Valenzuela trained under him and was less expensive but she operates out of MiHospital and I'm dead set on Hospital Angeles.

I am looking at that hospital as well but am thinking of DR. Kelly. I called him today and am waiting for him to return my call. What did you think of him when you spoke to him? From what I read he seems too good to be true and I haven't read anything negative about him.

I am so scared of making a mistake and picking the wrong surgeon....

I thought he was great. He personally called me Weds and we talked for about 40 mins. We are both from Michigan so had a commonality. I filled out my long form tonight and hopefully I am approved soon. I want to have it in January

I am so happy to hear you liked him. I am hoping he returns my call tomorrow. I already filled out the long form, so we would just need to discuss it.

What made you decide to go with the sleeve rather than the gastric bypass? I hope you get approved. Are you nervous about it all?

I want to try to get it done within the next few weeks if I decide to go with him. I am afraid I will lose my gumption if I wait.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
