Drink lots of Water and a few doses of Miralax. It is quite common between surgery and the change in diet to be constipated. It does get better though!

Miralax every night and a stool softener to get you going!

Ask your doctor to prescribe a stool softener like colace. My doctor started me on it from day 1. I had my first BM 5 days post op. Home remedies may vary, but making sure you get in all your fluids will help. During the all liquids phase I would add a bit of spinach to my Protein shakes for the bit of extra Fiber. Once you transition to soft foods and purees try to get in a bit of Fiber and mushy veg. One poster's recommendation was for every 2 bites of Protein, take 1 o f veg. Walking may also help.

In the meantime here's a list of things you could try: ducolax, miralax, milk of magnesia, Smooth Move tea, prunes or prune juice, black coffee, black Beans, tsp of epsom salt dissolved into organic grapefruit juice.< /p>

I had to use Miralax to get things moving and I'm still using a stool softener occasionally and I'm at 7 weeks post op. I am going to Walmart THIS WEEK to get the Smooth Move tea! Hope you are better soon.

After sleeve and three plastic surgeries I had MAJOR Constipation. I tried Miralax and it did nothing. I took two Exlax and inside of 8 hours I was totally fixed all four times. Ahhhh...the wonderfulness of a good number 2, lol.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
