Ok so I'm on post op day 5. I've been keeping up with my walking and it has been getting progressively easier. Today I decided hitting up barnes and noble would be no big deal!! Well it wasn't .... for a few minutes that is.... then suddenly my purse began to weigh on my shoulder, the tenderness in my abdomen began to ache, I couldnt find anywhere to sit and so i ended up on my feet walking (albeit it slowly) for 30 minutes.... when i got back in my car i was so disappointed i told my dad i was in pain and that I over estimated my capability... he said thats okay and that he thought i was doing extremely Despite the kind words I'm quite bummed about my situation. I can't wait to get to phase 2 full liquids so i can start on the Protein intake... protein will speed up my recovery Im sure of it. 3 years ago I had an arm surgery and when i upped my protein intake.. I noticed a large change in how i felt. I'd like to know how everyones progressing with their walking, movement, and over all healing process! Let me know =)

I hear you! I'm day 3 and feel like I can get a little dizzy living off Water and apple juice in the hospital. Protein will help a ton! I found some clear liquid Protein Drinks in Walmart that are safe for first week post op! I just don't have any with me in Mexico lol :(

You did a lot! You should be happy with the walking that you did. I didn't leave the house that soon! And I was doing very well, very quickly. Give yourself a break. You had major surgery and are still healing. 30 minutes of walking on day 5 is amazing!!!!

I am on POD#6 now and I only like to walk for about 10-15 and then take a rest.

I went grocery shopping with my mom and son- I just walked and pointed but after like 45 minutes I was wiped! I sat down while they did the check out and then sat down as soon as back to the car than took a two hour nap when we got home... My mom is going back home today--

I am sad because she has been such a help!

I think you are right on track!

Don't be discouraged! I remember going shopping and thinking wow, I need a cart to put my purse in. Just keep reminding yourself that you went through a major surgery and that your body is trying to rest, heal and figure out what is going on. I think finally after 6 weeks I'm feeling more normal energy wise, so some of it can last for a while! Sounds like you are doing great. :)

I think you are right on track. I am day 5 as well and attempted the grocery store and was really beat after 45 minutes of just pointing. Don't be discouraged, you will get better each day.

Wow this is inspiring! I feel alot better. You know what they say you are your toughest critic. I'm just happy to know im not alone and that this is standard. I keep thinking also that im drinking so much fluids i must be over doing it... but today i measured it and... im on 16 ounces... and its 8pm.... fail. I'm going to work on that as well. Good luck and Great Job to all my post op-ers you inspire me =)! And KIwi don't push the Protein before you're allowed... It might get stuck or be too much for your stomach to handle. wait for clearance! <3

@@StephOnTheMove, I am pretty sure I did not walk more than 5-10 minutes the first week I was home. As you mentioned, Protein will definitely help with your energy level. Another thing I did when I noticed my energy level was low, was switch to regular gatorade for a day, that really helped me get through that first 4-6 weeks.

Yes, that exhaustion will put you through the wringer for the first month or so. My bypass was on 07/29/15 and I don't think I felt any real energy until around 6 weeks out.

But rest assured that the tiredness is completely normal, and it'll eventually pass. Be sure to stay hydrated and get as much Protein in as you can. It will get better, I promise!

Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
