Pre-op Diet Detox

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 5 of my pre-op diet and lemme tell you, my head has never hurt so badly! I have tried everything I can think of to get it to stop but I wake up and go to sleep with the same one. I can barely see straight.

I figured there would be some detoxing, but since I don't drink soda or have caffeine I never imagined it would be this difficult - I was under the impression that was what most were detoxing from. I'm also starving 90% of the time but I expected that.

Please tell me this awful headache will go away?

The headache will definitely go away. You are detoxing from a few things not just soda. This too shall pass...hang in there! God luck!!!

I am on day 5 also. The first 2 morning I woke up with a headache. I drank a bottle of Water and a Protein Shake and it got better.

You are essentially detoxing from carbs as well. The major change in your diet causes your body to have a temper tantrum. I quit my heavy diet coke habit a month ago because I didn't want to suffer through that as well as pre op detox. Thank god. I was miserable the first 4 days due to detox and the Protein shakes give me the runs. Today is the first one that I feel almost human. There's nothing to be done for the head. sleep, tylenol, lots of Water. That's all you can do and wait for it to be over.

Haven't tried Protein Shakes yet but been drinking tons of water! I'm up to go to the bathroom a million times a night!

Sugar has drug like actions on the brain, detoxing from sugar is worse than caffeine. And sugar is in everything.

It must be carb withdrawal. Looking forward to tomorrow and also my first weigh in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
