cjd2010 30 Posted October 5, 2015 Anyone having a hard time losing weight on the pre op diet? I am drinking Water and my shakes and having my one meal and nothing!! Wth??
60&goin4it 931 Posted October 5, 2015 I'm having 2 shakes a day & my 3rd meal is a healthy choice or smart one with no potatoes or corn. I lost 7 lbs doing this in one month. I know I don't lose very fast, my body just shuts down. I've been trying to move around more & that seems to help.
cjd2010 30 Posted October 5, 2015 @@60&goin4it thank you. That's what I am on too. Only two weeks, so I was a little nervous I won't lose very much!
60&goin4it 931 Posted October 5, 2015 I think as long as you loose some you will be alright!!
Grace2115 27 Posted October 5, 2015 What does a typical day look like food wise for you? I'm on my 2 week pre-op diet, surgery is in 3 days. My diet consists of: 3-5 Protein Shakes/day w/ 8 oz skim milk Non starchy veggies seasoned w: soy sauce, teriyaki, hot sauce, vinegar, mustard, etc. I can also use the Italian dressing packets that you make at home MINUS the oil, just the packet, Water and vinegar. sugar free Jello, Popsicles, and Water ice. broth So far I have lost 10lbs within 11 days, 19 since my highest weight in July. Give it time, you should see the scale move!
drmeow 323 Posted October 7, 2015 Ugh, I am only allowed liquids, nothing solid, for a month. I'm supposed to lose 20 lbs in this month! (I had attempted bypass last month and my surgeon found too much fat in the omentum around the small intestine so it could not be stretched up to reach the stomach) I get 4 Protein shakes/day (I can't do milk or soy so I use almond milk with 2 and Water with the other 2). Then I can have several servings of low cal yogurt, sugar-free pudding, plain oatmeal (1/2 cup) or unsweetened applesauce. and V-8. I've lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks but have to kick it up somehow to reach 20 lbs in 2 more weeks. Very hard to stick with this, I want something to actually chew. WillieBradley 70 Posted October 8, 2015 You are not alone. My surgery is October 15 and have Been on a liquid diet for one week. I haven't lost but 2 pounds but I feel as if I am hungry all the time. Gets worst just before bed. I'm gonna just stick to it and hope everything works out. This pre-op is the WORST, but as I understand it is well worth it in the end. My surgeon did remind me that the purpose of the Liquid Protein diet is to shrink the liver, thus making surgery easier. So maybe the weight loss is only secondary. Right now I don't know what to think. I'm just ready for the next week to go by!
cjd2010 30 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) @@WillieBradley I agree!! But if I am not losing anything how do I know if my liver is shrinking. I am scared , the doc will have to open me or not do it at all! Edited October 9, 2015 by cjd2010
WillieBradley 70 Posted October 9, 2015 @@cjd2010 I have no idea. I have the same concerns. I have read about others with the same issue but had successful surgery. However, that does not minimize my concerns. I don't have the answer. But somehow I do feel we are going to be ok.
Karma J Riddell Henson 68 Posted October 9, 2015 my 2 week pre-op diet is only 1 shake for Breakfast, 1 shake for lunch, then I can have a 300 cal dinner, 3 oz of meat, like chicken or fish, a salad with only 1TB of light dressing or a light yogurt or a small piece of fruit, Seems like you all are able to eat more than I can, but in just these almost 2 weeks, I have lost 21 lbs. Good Luck!

WillieBradley 70 Posted October 9, 2015 Thanks. Same to you cjd2010. I'm eating my Protein "soup" now. Already tired of this stuff.
cjd2010 30 Posted October 9, 2015 @@WillieBradley what is Protein Soup? Haha....
WillieBradley 70 Posted October 9, 2015 It's what my surgeon's office gave me to substitute for Protein Shakes. It's called "Optifast 800" Soup Mix. My Protein shakes are called "Optifast 800" Protien Shakes. That is all I can have except I can have a super free Popsicle and a 1/2 cup of sugar free Jello. I have 5 more days of this. Surgery on October 15th.
pmanley 45 Posted October 11, 2015 I gained 14lb after I quit smoking and already had to loss 15 additional by the surgery date in 10 days so I started my "2-week" pre diet one week early (after being on Atkins for 3 weeks prior to that) and last week had only lost 6 of the 29 I had to lose but this week weigh in i lost 13 lbs...keep it up!!! It will come off and don't stress...stress causes your body to produce a hormone called cortisol and that will stop weight loss so just be calm and keep eating and drinking what you need to...the weight will come off and you will be fine.
