I think I'm abnormal

Recommended Posts

I am 8 months out and down 83 lbs which is all good but...I am hungry all the time, not just hungry but starved. I can sit around and pick at stuff all day. How abnormal is that for someone with the sleeve?

I think it can be normal time to time. Some days I forget to eat and other days I feel like I'm grazing all day like I haven't eaten for days. I noticed on the days I graze its kinda my fault cause I'm eat really cruddy foods and not eating things that are high in Protein and good fats that keep me satisfied for longer periods of time. Or its around the TOM when all when are a lil bit more hungry and going through a hormone fluctuation. My suggestion? Don't sweat it and just make yourself Snacks to keep on you or in the pantry or fridge already prepared. This way they are healthy and not carb or sodium laden. You'll be fine! Good luck!

This may be bariatric heresy, but when I got to that point where I just wanted to eat my thumbs, I started gearing my meals for more Fiber at the cost of some of the Protein. At close to two years, I am still at only 1000 calories and am supposed to be getting 80-100 grams of Protein. I have backed it off to 60 grams in order to get the Fiber in.

My hamburger patty became 1/2 hamburger patty with Beans and stuff made up as chili. My 3 ounces of chicken became two ounces of chicken and a couple extra bites of veggie. By veggie I don't mean potatoes or corn every night. I mean broccoli, cauliflower, squash, and green Beans and veggies like that.

I love cheese and Peanut Butter, but they don't fill me up. But if I have a 1/2 sliced apple with a tbs. of Peanut Butter, that helps satisfy for a snack. You can substitute the real deal for foods processed in a factory. This would be an apple with the peel, not applesauce, fresh pear with the skin, not canned pears in Syrup, banana - not banana pudding, or Tomato wedges instead of tomato juice.

I have good days and bad days too. If my sciatica is acting up, I want comfort food, not celery sticks. This is a balancing act for life and challenging to get perfect every day. Just do your best and try to stay away from edibles made in a factory. Call it food? ??? I can't. I just can't.

I agree with @@Miss Mac, add some filling foods to your intake and see what happens. Of course there are times when we still have to practice self control, but every meal should not leave you starving.

I so appreciate all of the feedback you all are giving me, it makes me feel so much less abnormal. It seems there are a good number of commenters that would say "oh I have no appetite, I ate a crouton last Thursday and it will satisfy me for the next month" Ok, yes I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean! Thank you for the support I greatly appreciate the positive, understanding feedback. XO

I do find that the TYPE of food I am eating makes a big difference. I also personally experience thirst as hunger - so make sure you are well hydrated!

A side note...sometimes I am really not hungry, just thirsty. Also it depends on the Protein I am eating, dense Protein fills me up and sticks with me longer. Some days I feel like I want to eat more and some not at all. I would imagine this will be a fluctuation that will happen always going forward.

Still learning every day!

@@Addawn You said, "I can sit around and pick at stuff all day."

When I find myself sitting around doing nothing and starting to think about nibbling, I quick find something to do or somewhere to go. Maybe you could pick up an indoor hobby to keep your hands and mind busy.

I just started knitting again at night. Really helps keep my hands busy.

Thank you again for all the advice and support. It may seem like a little thing to give that to someone but it has actually made a big impact on my perspective and I greatly appreciate it. I am working up a new game plan that beings with drinking more. When I feel hungry I am going to address it first with hydration of sort, if I am still hungry I am going to take a little walk (when I am in my office) and if I still feel hungry afterwards I will have a small appropriate snack. I think I will also bump up my workouts some for those days I may have a few more pistachos than I should : ) Thank you all again. I feel back-on-track!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
