I've been having a horrible time of it for the past 4 days. Vomitting multiple times a day. The Dr. said it was esophagus spasms. I'm almost 3 weeks from my surgery. And I'm not feeling that well. My body is weak and I'm exhausted. Im hoping to go back to work tomorrow. But right now that seems unattainable. Im trying to keep myself hydrated. I've had a Protein Shake all day. And will force myself to get some Protein for dinner. Im concerned with all the vomitting I might do damage to the staples. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be feeling back to norm at almost the 3rd week mark? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I haven't dealt with what you are going through but I would ask your doctor to prescribe you a med called Levsin. It's a pill that melts in your mouth and stops the spasms. I only had to take it 3 times a day for 5 days. It was a lifesaver for me. I know some people who have had to take it for a few weeks. Ask him about it and see what he says.

As far as time off of work I took 5 and a half weeks. I probably could have gone back a little earlier but I was so tired and weak all I wanted to do was sleep for hours. Sometimes it's still hard to get through the whole day without a nap. I try to get to bed about 9-10ish and get up around 6 so I am getting a good 8 to 9 hours a night. Everyone is different, I might just like to sleep. It will get easier as the weeks go on. One month is typically the turning point where you start to feel good. I am 7 weeks out and feel pretty good.

Good Luck!

I had esophageal bruising due to the robotic arms bumping into my esophagus during surgery.

The bruising and pain and spasms lasted about two months unfortunately and made my life very difficult because swallowing was the worst!!! And when I finally could swallow, I had to deal with getting it past the bruised area of my esophagus! Talk about pain... my esophagus would spasm for about a minute afterwards and I felt like passing out some days!

Levsin certainly may be an option to help stop the spasms until your esophagus heals.

I had an upper GI this week. He said there was some debris but that wasn't mentioned on the printout. He told me to smash alca server plus take a small cup full then shoot it back with Water. This opens up the areas and I can actually eat soft foods and keep it down. I've only had one vomitting incident but I believe that was because I didn't wait the hour and half down time after eating. So all in all I'm not vomitting as much and I will see how long I engage in the alca seltzer routine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
