Thought we hunters needed a thread, trade some advice or tips on getting in shape for this season.

Anybody looking forward to having more fun than usual out in the woods this year or next year?

I am looking forward to being able to hold up my .30-06 without feeling like I'm dying. And hiking in with my blind and gear will be soooooo much easier this year!!!

My DH and I coon hunt. Let me tell you, the dogs can cover a LOT of ground, and it's no easy task at 285 to walk through a plowed field, or through the underbrush in a draw, when you're covering 5 or 6 miles in an evening... I'm looking forward to being able to keep up without being winded next season!

I am looking forward to being able to go deeper into my area for a better hunt. I am also looking forward to being able to gut and drag out my kill without stopping every hundred yards.

My DH and I do American Field trial...horseback/dog & (bird) hunting on a competive basis and just for fun. The weight loss has allowed me to ride more comfortably as well as no grunting from my horse. We do some walking bird hunting and since I'm on a walking exercise kick, I can only think it will help. I have more energy and feel lighter. I have a ways to go so I'm hopeful that it will feel even better and I'll have way more fun!!

I'm hoping to get banded in early October or so.... This should give me plenty of time to get over the initial pain etc.. for our November 15th opening of rifle season! I was with my husband last year when he got a monster 8 point. This buck was huge - bigger than most of the 10 + pointers on the pole! My turn!

I'm dragging my husband out for rifle season for the first time in his life this year, God willing. He can spot a deer anywhere, he's got eagle eyes. He doesn't really care for the cold much, so I guess I'll have to break down and get a bigger heater for the blind. I have never had problems with the cold, but who knows this year? Maybe with losing mroe weight it will start to bug me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
