StephOnTheMove 22 Posted October 4, 2015 Well I'm officially Post op! I had my surgery October 1 and last night was my first night home. It was a nightmare! I'm used to sleeping on my stomach and turning frequently ... Well at some point I must have turned and I couldn't get up because the pain was so bad. I literally thought I was going to have to call rescue to get me out of bed.... Has anyone ever tried to get up from bed without using their core?!? It's virtually impossible. Finally after an hour of panic pain and tiny shifts I got to a better position .... When I woke up this morning .... Again it took me 20-30 minutes to figure out the least painful way to get out of bed. Needless to say I will be sleeping down stairs on my recliner for the duration of this recovery. Last nights awful experience aside I've been doing pretty well. I walk as much as possible and I've been doing my best to take in the sufficient amount of fluids. So far I don't haven't much of an appetite which is so strange to see food around me and not even really miss it. Don't get me wrong I have my moments .... Especially when I smell a food Like pizza ... But I'm not currently mourning things like I assumed I would be. tiny miracles!! I see my Dr and nutritionist Friday and I am praying to the good lord I'll be moved to phase 2 of the liquid diet! broth Jello and juice gets boring quickly. Fingers crossed!!! I'm saying prayers for all of my fellow surgery brothers and sisters and all those pre-opees with/without dates. Keep fighting. <3 - Steph

James Marusek 5,244 Posted October 4, 2015 I think I went through that stage. It was even more interesting for me because I sleep on a Water bed. It was really difficult to get out of bed in the early days after surgery.

RNYDawn 160 Posted October 4, 2015 Oh you poor thing! I hurt my back and it was so painful to get up from laying my stomach (needed for physical therapy and X-rays!) I had 2 c-sections so I'm hoping my body remembers not to lay on my stomach again after surgery!
StephOnTheMove 22 Posted October 4, 2015 lol, if it doesnt make the recliner your new bestie... =) Do you have your date yet?
RNYDawn 160 Posted October 5, 2015 No, I just started. The bariatric specialist said February or March but I'm hoping for February! My first nutrition class is Thursday and I'm excited. ???? We have a recliner in our youngest's room that I may have to move into my room for a while!
Cherry Muffley 7 Posted October 5, 2015 I have surgery 10/13 and bought a wedge pillow hoping it will keep me mostly on my back and help me in getting out of bed. It was only $20 at Walmart.< /p>
gpmed 623 Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) A physical therapist in the hospital taught me this move for getting out of bed: roll over onto your side and up onto your elbow, and then swing your legs down while you move up to a sitting position. Then let your thighs do the work as you stand up instead of your core. This started working for me around day 4. Before that I still needed help.
