I cheated on my preop diet

Recommended Posts

Just had sushi for dinner which was NOT on the preop diet. Bad thing is I want to cheat again. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has cheated...more than once.

I haven't cheated yet......but I'm only a week into it.

It's easier for me if I stay focused and stick with it.

Sushi is not so bad......better than hitting a Golden Corral.

Get back on track and ride it out.

Try as best as you can not to cheat. Believe me, I know the temptation, I've been there. In some ways, the pre-op diet is the hardest part. But if you cheat repeatedly, and don't shrink your liver, they might not be able to perform a laparoscopic procedure, and they might end up having to go for an open surgery, or even abort the surgery (after they have already made the laparoscopic incisions!), which will be much harder on you.

The more you cheat, the easier it is to keep on cheating. So really try to clamp down and not do it anymore. Remind yourself of the reason you are getting the surgery in the first place.

You can do it!

Powerful statement.

That's some compelling motivation to stick with the plan.

You are not the only one who has ever cheated. Please stop beating yourself up over it. You can't change what already happened. It doesn't make you a bad person and it doesn't mean you are going to fail in this process. So now. Pick yourself up and look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do this and believe in yourself. You CAN still do this. Don't convince yourself it's to late. Just don't even go there don't look back. Believe in yourself and when that craving hits again come here to this forum. Text someone if you need the encouragement. Have a plan of action ready so when that craving comes you can do something about it. Maybe buy a cute pair of jeans. Just leave and go for a walk. Go in the bathroom and look yourself in the face and tell yourself you got this!! It is hard but the day will get here and you can succeed in this. Trust me you really can so this. No more going back and worrying about what you can't change okay. Big hugs ((squeeze))

I'm on my 18th day of the liquid pre-op diet, my surgery is tomorrow morning. Some days were harder when I had to cook for my husband and toddler and could smell the food but not taste it, but as I was told by the nutritionist and my surgeon's nurse, the pre-op liquid diet is not just a liver shrinking diet, it's a habit breaking one. I haven't cheated at all these past 18 days, and feel that much more confident I can change my lifestyle forever after being given this tool.

It's pretty much a test that you can control your cravings and urges to eat as you won't be able to do so after without feeling sick, or worse, causing complications if you do it right after your procedure. I'd suggest whenever you start craving something, walk away and remember WHY you're doing this surgery and how important it is to follow your doctor's plans. Don't think that you want to cheat again, you gotta be hard on yourself at those times. You can do it!

I figured shrinking the liver wasn't the only thing reason they make you do this. I am happy about the weight I have lost so far though!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
