My therapist said something to me recently that was a bit of an ah ha moment for me and that I cannot get out of my head so I thought I would pass it along in case it was helpful to anyone else.

I said to her that pre-op I hated leftovers, but that thankfully I have really gotten used to them since you kind of have to have leftovers when you are eating such small portions. To which she said "Well of course you hated leftovers. food was your entertainment and who would want to watch the same movie 2 nights in a row."

I don't know why this one thing hit me like it did, but man, I have repeated that over and over so many times - every time I want to reach for something because I am bored, or want to snack while I am cooking, or want that piece of candy from the candy bowl at work or the donuts in the kitchen, etc. etc. Also, when I get towards the end of a meal and I have that urge to keep eating because it just tastes good, I hear her say that and remember that I can have it again next time!

Hope it blesses someone else too!

Thanks for sharing! I'm trying (and struggling) to get used to eating leftovers. I've never been a big fan of them but post op I am learning how to eat them, because my refrigerator stays full of leftovers, LOL.

@@lexiemustang - Mine too! I can't say I really always look forward to the leftovers but now I understand why and I am definitely adjusting to it (or at least I hope I am!)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
