Took my meds the night of surgery and every night since. No issues.

I would not let that keep you away from your surgery. The wls journey can be a very emotional one, yes. I would highly recommend going to a counselor/therapist for ANYONE both pre and post op wls. As for the meds, you may have issues, you may not. BUT, that is an issue that can come up at anytime anyway with those types of meds. Stay close to you doctors be open and upfront about everything. Keep a journal and if you don't have someone to vent to, seriously consider a therapist (or even a support group) for the first 6-12 months post op. So many changes happen so fast. No matter what obstacle comes your way post op, you will more than likely be very satisfied with your decision if you follow through. The fear of the unknown holds us back, and many times we find out later there was nothing to be afraid of.

The question I'm having a problem getting an answer to is do I take the short or long acting form of my antidepressants after surgery?

It depends. I'm sorry that's the best answer. Anyone who has taken these meds for a while knows it is an odd struggle to get the meds right. And even when you do, the body changes, or we get into another phase of life, and the meds we used to take just don't work anymore.

Good article on this: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/545489_4

My new NP works with bariatric patients and said we would have to adjust meds after surgery depending on my tolerance but nothing about stopping or going off of anything

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
