So I am a nurse by education. I had my sleeve January 20, 2015. No real problems to speak of since. I am at work yesterday and I get asked to help with a simple procedure to put in a central line on a patient. For those of you that don't know, this is a line that is inserted into the artery of the neck when an IV can't be established. I have done this thousands of times. it was roughly 4 in the afternoon when this happened. My office (because i am not typically a floor nurse any longer) is blasted cold. I had a scrub on with a long sleeve shirt underneath. I live in WI and it's colder now so this isn't strang anyway. The room I was in was 74 degrees during the procedure. I had my latest drink of Fluid at around 3 pm. In the middle of the procedure, I asked the other nurse to come over by me and that's all i remember. She said i mumbled something about a light and then proceeded to hit the ground. I had passed out...but not only that. I seized.....twice.....they flipping called a rapid response on me. I probably freaked out the patient. I had the surgeon yelling into the hallway for help....what a fuss......All I can attribute this too is that we must loose electrolytes much faster than normal. I guess I didn't get that in the summer becasue I always had a drink with me. So yeah...i have to go back to work now and face all these people....how embarrasing....lol

Wow. That has got to be terrifying for you and everyone else. But, it sounds like if something like that were to happen you couldn't been at a better place.

Glad to know you are ok now.

Good to hear you are fine now. Take care of yourself ☺

Oh wow. I'm sorry that happened. This is one of my biggest fears. I'm an ER RN and I've had several instances of near syncope since my surgery. It sucks! I'm so afraid it's going to happen in the middle of a code or something!

I'm an RT and I was sleeved on 9/14. I came back to work on 10/1 thinking all would be okay since I scheduled myself in the NICU for a couple of weeks...how hard can it be taking care of preemies, right? Well, the second night I got busy and didn't keep my fluids up...and BAM, I stood up and went right back down...I learned the hard way...STAY HYDRATED...lol

I was having a procedure and had a nurse pass out on top of me. I just thought, "OMG, what the hell is this doctor doing to me" LOL. Turns out she didn't eat Breakfast. Glad you are ok! Nurses are human too.

That was the lone hiccup in my surgery. They couldn't start an IV on me and had to do a central line. Even that was a challenge! I was calm through the whole thing because I was a Child Life Specialist and very familiar with hospitals and OR's. Not sure I could have remained calm if the nurse had passed out on me.

Thanks for the warnings! I often forget to drink my fluids. I am glad you all talked about this as I am starting a new job soon I don't want to be embarrassed.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
