It can always be a little hard in the beginning. Your body is in a heal mode. The most important elements in the beginning is working towards meeting you daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting stored fat into the energy that drives your body.

you've lost over half the weight I have and I'm 7 weeks post op. I'm a little jealous! ;)

but yes, that nausea when you drink is unfortunately normal and will eventually go away. Right now your stomach has new incisions and has been through a HUGE trauma. As you heal, you will tolerate things much, much better.

Take care, keep your chin up. :) Feel better!

Has your doc prescribed anything for nausea? Mine prescribed nausea medicine for me to fill in advance of surgery. It might help with meeting your Protein and fluid goals.< /p>

Yeah but it doesn't seem to help much. I am doing good on fluids for now. I hope I don't have any problems

I had a similar problem only everything made me nauseous from the smell of food to brushing my teeth. I found that pain and anti nausea meds together where a winning combo. I also found taking in 2oz then walking seemed to help a bit

If you cannot eat/drink warm things, keep pushing the cold Protein drinks. You need to get in some Protein to keep your strenght up. Hang in there, it only gets better :-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
