Warning sleevers! Bad stomach virus!

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to take a quick second to warn my fellow peers with tiny tummies that there is a very bad stomach virus going around. I live in Dallas and had the pleasure of catching it, I was out for about 4 days and couldn't eat. I felt bloated, nauseous, and oddly full when I tried to force feed myself. You also get the regular things that come with stomach viruses, but I don't need to spell that out for you guys. I was worried I'd end up in the hospital seeing we rely on our Protein and Vitamins so much, but somehow I have pulled through. So please wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer like crazy. My coworkers who have regular tummies were out about 2-3 days, so please take care of yourselves.

I've often wondered how we deal with the stomach flu with our drastically reduced stomach size!

If any of you had your surgeries here in the states and can ask your doctors office that would be good to know going forward. I just happened to have been unlucky and caught a cold and that nasty stomach virus, but I had my surgery in Mexico. And really once he's done with you, you're on your own. I used to always catch a tummy bug if anyone around me had one, I really hope that has changed now. I'm still recouping.

Yup, it bit me, too, about 4 weeks ago. Happily, it was only a two-day experience. But it did scare me. On Day One I thought about going to the hospital (worried I might have some horrible deer tick disease), but on Day Two I realized it was only an intestinal bug.

BTW, I ate only 400 calories the day I came down with it -- and that's the least I've eaten since my first week post-op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
