Or, a co-worker says that whatever happens, she hopes her daughters never get fat, because that would be the absolute worst thing to ever happen to anyone.
That's....I don't even.....

What a despicable person!

I don't think she knew I overheard.

If she was aware I heard I could have provided a list of a whole lot of things that are worse than being fat.

I just felt very sad for she and her kids.

Yeah I hate when skinny people say they are fat. Omg.

And, the worker who said being fat is the worst thing ever.... She is proof that it's true. Society treats overweight people HORRIBLY and she probably doesn't want her daughters to experience that sort of hatred and prejudice. It's so sad. ????????

Heck, I had a roommate say in front of me that she didn't want to ever gain weight because she would look like a beached whale and then glance over at me in disgust. Smh.

I've had a lot of experience getting bullied for my weight. And my romantic life SUCKS. I definitely wouldn't wish this on my own daughter (should I ever have one). I wish the world treated us as equals, but it Doesn't. Sad truth.

You can't POSSIBLY be insinuating that there's nothing worse in the human experience than being fat??

I can name a few just off the top of my head:

Losing a child

Suffering from cancer

Living in a war torn country

I mean, let's get some perspective here....

You're putting words in my mouth. I didn't insinuate that at all. But, the TRUTH is that fat people DO get LOTS of discrimination. No one wishes prejudice against their child. Are there WORSE things? Obviously. But I for one wish I'd NEVER gotten fat with the way people treat us. We are a MOCKERY to society. Flat out. Why would she want that for her daughters???? I am sure you wouldn't want that for yours either. I'm just looking at it from her perspective. But again, no, of course I don't think it's the WORST thing in the world. Absolutely not. Definitely agree with you. @@Babbs

I just spoke with my counselor about this similar thing yesterday. I had wondered if it is a struggle for thin women to maintain or even lose and how hard are their struggles in comparison to overweight women. I even mentioned that I have a coworker who looks great and eats everything and anything all the time and never gains a pound, apparently her metabolism is working.

I asked her if all women have to diet most of their lives and if that is normal. She said most women are dieting all of their lives, but that genetics play a huge role too, in addition to disease processes, and medications.

It does bother me to see someone who is 100 pounds or less saying that they are fat. If that is fat, then I must be Shamu. On the other side of the coin, losing weight is also very mental. Some people who hit goal still mentally think they are still fat, because the brain just hasn't caught up to the weight loss. It is difficult to love yourself when many people including myself spent years obese. It takes time to gain confidence, acceptance, and loving yourself.

We are our own worst critics!!!

Wow, I wish I could say that I've never been discriminated against. Once I gained weight, men and women began treating me very differently and I've been bullied numerous times for it. I've had people stop in their cars to yell and laugh at my size. I don't understand it. It's disgustingly prejudice and shallow.

My daughter is overweight, and my son is obese.

No, I wouldn't wish it upon them, and I'm sure they absolutely hate it, but if I had to choose between my kids struggling with their weight (which they can do something about, by the way) or some other horrific things that could be thrust upon them, I'll take the weight. Because they are still wonderful, kind, normal, highly intellegent, functioning adults who have a lot to contribute to this world and do on a daily basis. I'd rather have them be fat and be good people than be skinny and be horrible.

Thanks for those words... There are awful afflictions...

My family has a member with mental issues who will never be right. Probably never live on her own.. Doesn't fit in in a group setting. Had thousands upon thousands spent in treatment... To no avail.

Don't get me started about meth and other drugs that remove people from being productive members of our society.

So an adult child who weighs more than what is healthy seems to pale in comparison....

A job, a partner, a decent home and a genuine nice person. All I need to feel like they are successful.????thanks

I just have to get this off my chest ... omgosh ...

I have a co-worker who ... soaking wet .. probably weighs 90 lbs ...

She just came to me and said she was getting 2 donuts this morning and will start her diet next week ...

OH PLEASE !

I said ... Why next week ? Why stop now?

She said ... I just don't know how to be stern with myself ...

I said ... it's really simple ... you say no and walk away ... easy peasy.

She laughed and said ...Yea on Monday I will ....

First of all ... why diet? You're too skinny as it is ...

Second ... GET YOUR FREAKING DONUT BREATH AWAY FROM ME!

OMGOSH !

Funny stuff.

Truly aggravating how easy is seem for some folks.

I've watched my wife for decades......will go out with me....go to our favorite spots like Cheesecake Factory....have some calorie laden frozen cocktails.......then a ginormous salad with all the rich dressing toppings.......then a killer entree.......then a piece of cheesecake.....and another to go.

She'll eat all the stuff I've frequently grilled: ribs, pulled pork, sausages, steaks, etc. etc. Enjoy it with the mac'n'cheese, baked Beans, sugary slaw and etc.

She's basically enjoyed all the stuff I've enjoyed over the years.

The aggravating part is that she maintains a weight that's darn near the recommended height-weight recommendations.

Her keys to staying thin are to weigh at least twice a week and make course corrections. She'll kick up the cardio for a few days and get back into line. She'll eat better choices....healthy stuff most of the time independently but then indulge in stuff with me.

I strive to be like her.........get to goal.......and set up the structure to freaking stay there while enjoying life all along.

I'm hoping that by kicking up the cardio and living a more active lifestyle I will awaken the machinery that will help me feel better and stay in the weight range that I structure for myself. Course corrections all along the way and stopping to smell the roses, too.

Everyone can struggle with food and more importantly self image and self esteem...

My best friend is drop dead gorgeous, and I've been jealous of her my entire life! She is 5'4, 120 pounds, hour glass frame, tan skin, nicest clothes, new car, etc. That bitch has everything I want ;) but I never realized she had an eating disorder... she struggles with food and self image just as much as I do - only in a different way.

So in a way I understand how we want to say "you have NO idea"

but everyone has a problem, it might just not be visible like ours... and we shouldn't put others down because of it.

MrsKarenC2008,

I know exactly what you’re talking about! It makes me roll my eyes when someone with a perfect body eats something that would make me gain 2 lbs if I even looked at it! And then they have to talk about the trouble it’s going to get them in. Yeah, right.

But to be fair…most, if not all, of the thin people I know work really hard at it. At least, all the thin people I’m close enough to to be able to have some idea of what they do to stay thin. They go to the gym. They think about each bite they take, even if they don’t log it like most WLS do or count grams of Protein. They worry about the scale.

Yes, a lot of them had a “head start” on us – maybe they have better genes, or grew up with more nutritionally-oriented parents, or naturally loved to be active, but many of them work really hard at it. I understand their need to say they’re going to start a diet, or they feel guilty about eating some bad food. They’re only human, just like us.

Maybe if WLS had a little more empathy for naturally thin people, and naturally thin people were a little more understanding of our extra struggles…the world would be a nicer place. Until then…yeah…keep your donut breath out of my face!

One of my biggest pet peeves is when skinny people talk about dieting and how they need to loose weight. It's so annoying hearing someone who weighs 115 lbs saying "oh my god I'm so fat, I need to loose 5 lbs"

One of my last jobs one of the supervisors there was so skinny, probably a double zero, and she would order the biggest greasiest lunch every day. She was always eating. She was a very nice person and a great supervisor but I kind of hated her

@@Alex Brecher You are completely right ... and perhaps I was a bit premature in my venting about that very little incident. .. sometimes it pays to take a step back and walk a mile in someone else's shoes to see they struggle just like anyone else...

Thank you for making me stop and think ... clearly I was speaking from a place of jealousy and frustration at that particular moment...

And maybe I wanted the donut breath!! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
