Shainadelphia 69 Posted October 1, 2015 Since my surgery 2 weeks ago everything I eat (drink) has a medicinal/ metallic taste to it. Even Water. Has this happened to anyone else and does it go away? Thanks!
FrankyG 1,450 Posted October 1, 2015 I didn't have that issue, but I have seen it before. There is a definite difference in the taste of plain Water for almost everyone after the surgery (which is why flavored sugar free drink mixes are so popular). I am pretty sure the taste change is temporary. I know at the beginning, I did have a weird aversion to drinking straight Water and things that had ANY sugar in them tasted horribly sweet (which was a good thing for me). But it all evened out within the first month or so.

belaby18 8 Posted October 1, 2015 Try to eat with plastic spoons, drink cold drinks it has worked with me. I had that same metallic taste and still have it 6 weeks post op. I drank melon Water made fresh with a lot of ice and it was just good just don't add too much sugar just the melon taste was refreshing.
Shainadelphia 69 Posted October 2, 2015 I did switch to plastic spoons! I couldn't stand the taste of silverware. I'll try the iced tea idea too. Thanks!
vsg09102015 7 Posted October 2, 2015 I had that, too, but a week later it was gone. Glad it didn't last long because it was awful!
naturegirl 320 Posted October 2, 2015 I'm 2 months post-op and often still have that terrible taste in my mouth. Some days it's worse than others. Hoping that it will lessen overtime.
