globetrotter 0 Posted July 12, 2007 I was denied today, and my insurance company basically said "look at the book, it will tell you why you are denied" what the "book" - the catalogue of coverage of the insurance company says is "insurance will not cover anyone who is not 100% over the ideal weight for his hieght". my "ideal wieght" is 148 pounds. I am 299. 200% of 148 is 296, which is less than 299. so, I called the insurance and asked them where they got their "ideal weight", and they basically said from their medical consultants. I sent an apeal letter saying that according to my calculations,, I met the criteria. this was today, too soon for an aswer. any ideas what I can do?
faithmd 14 Posted July 13, 2007 Not until you hear back from your appeal letter. But if you need to pursue it further, may I suggest you look into Obesity Law and Advocacy Center before you appeal again. They are pretty good as what they do, and don't charge an arm and a leg. sistergirl 0 Posted July 13, 2007 I had the same thing happen to me. I weighed 268 and my ideal weight should have been about 160. The reason they turned me down was because my policy had a obesity clause in it. I went to appeals they still denied me. After dealing with it for about 4 months, I decided to have my lap-band in Tijuana. This was October 3, 2006 and I have lost 96 lbs. Take care and good luck with your insurance
