When did you feel "normal"

Recommended Posts

I am 2 days into my second week post-op, and I can't believe how weak and exhausted I get very quickly. For example, it's a LOT of work to take a shower. Lifting my arms to pick up the Shampoo out of the shower rack feels like I lifted a 200pound bench press.

I'm just wondering if this is what others went through and if so, at what point did you have more energy, and I guess, stamina?

I think for me some where around week 5 I started feeling more normal and stopped needing daily naps. Hang in there! You are still very new!

I am just starting week 4 and am still extremely tired all the time. On top of that, I still have some discomfort in my left side that makes sitting up or standing up for long periods of time painful. I try to nap at least once a day, if not more if I can squeeze it in between family and working.

@@rnwrny noted that week 5 is when she started feeling better and several of my close friends who have had this surgery also noted that week 5 they started to feel back to normal and pain free. I hope that they're all right :)

Keep your head up though, things will get better!! xo

Basically until you get all of your required Protein on a regular basis. I did not feel 100% like my old self (energy wise) until month three! Hang in there, it will get a little better every day!

I feel really fortunate that I am three weeks post op and feel relatively physically normal. Emotionally I am still have some weird moments, melt downs and WTF's.

But physically I am doing well. I don't have any incision discomfort, no gas pains, no Constipation and never really felt nauseous. I am also went back to work after only ten days off and manage to get through a 7-9 hour shift with relative ease.

It gets better everyday. I remember the first week out, I got out of the shower and had this insatiable need to lay down. The moment I got dressed, I laid on the couch and fell asleep for two hours. Just listen to your body, it knows what it needs!

I never experienced that type of lethargy. I was back to work in a week and was grocery shopping etc, by day 4. You may need more Iron or B12. I would check with your doctor.

I am in week 3 post-op, and I am finally able to go the whole day without a nap. For the last few weeks, I would be fine and then suddenly fatigue would descend on me like a blanket, and I could hardly do anything but go to bed. Finally that seems to have stopped, but my stamina is still not quite what is was pre-op.

I'm certain all of that will come back soon. Just gotta let ourselves heal. I spoke with my doctor about it, and he said it is completely normal, it is the result of major surgery and your body healing.

I have been experiencing lots of fatigue too. I had my surgery on the 28th. My house is a mess as I will do a chore and then have to rest a few min. I am walking but after that, I'm useless. So ready to feel normal!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
