Problems eating a yr after post op

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had problems with eating even after a year and a half postop? I originally had the gastric sleeve 2013 and had it convert it into a bypass in 2014. After the bypass I had to have for dilations. To date I am still having problems when trying to consume foods. When I eat the foods I am supposed to eat at the correct portion I tend to get hot, sweaty, my heart rate increases, and my stomach cramps really bad. My surgeon says that I have developed a food aversion and that I am not managing my proportions correctly. But at any given time I can only eat 2 forkfuls of food. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so what did your surgeon or Bariatrion had to say about it?

That does not sound normal. If you are 18 months post-op, you should be able to consume a cup of food per meal; not just 2 forkfuls of food.< /p>

I threw your symptoms into the internet and what seemed to pop out was "late dumping syndrome". http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/dumping-syndrome.html I am not sure I believe this.

It is possible that you might be experiencing problems relating to revisions. One individual in our bariatric support group meeting went from a lap band revision to RNY gastric bypass. Because of the scaring associated with the erosion caused by his band, his new pouch was constructed much smaller than typical. As a result, he was somewhat limited in the volume he could consume at each meal.

I have personally found out that softer foods such as chili and Soups go down much easier than harder foods such as steaks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
