WillieBradley 70 Posted November 13, 2015 Surgery was October 15th, so today is the end of my 4th week. Surgery went well. I weighed 285 lbs. when I started preopt. Was 274 lbs. at surgery. Am now 246 lbs. I feel good but it took some time to heal. The liquid pre and postop was very challenging (more so preop than postop....during postop, I'm just not hungry very often.) Getting in the Protein and the liquids has also been a challenge postop, but it's getting better. My primary physician said that 99.9% of the people wouldn't be able to have WLS because of the strict regime and lifestyle change. Therefore he does not recommend many of his patients for WLS. He said only a select few can handle it. I'm glad he thought I was a great candidate for the surgery. It has already begun to change my life for the better. Each of you should be proud you stuck with it and, instead of thinking or talking about it, you took action!! I'm proud of each and every one of you. Including those who are still seeking approval from insurance and those who are just starting preop! We are blessed to be the"chosen ones!"

60&goin4it 931 Posted November 13, 2015 @395Ron Not sure if this is the one you are looking for It was called "Secret Recipe Homemade Chili" In Delicious High- Protein recipes. Calories Protein 3 lbs. 95% Lean Ground Beef 2616 396 g. 1 can Low sugar Tomato Soup 175 3 g. 2 cans Dark Red Kidney Beans 700 49 g. 1 lg Sweet Onion chopped 40 1 g. 2 large cans or 4 small cans of Stewed Tomatoes 420 14 g. season to taste Total 3951cal 463 g. protein We are big chili eaters in my home so I made a big batch of my home made chili like I always make it only using the lean ground beef & leaving out sausage. I had no trouble eating it & could eat 1/2 cup. Mine has a lot of ingredients but my family loves it so much so I tried it with no problems. My original recipe is in the October list of surgery's thread as Irishaggie asked for it. So glad to see you back! We have missed you!!!!!! We had about 110 people ask to be put on our list! I have noticed, now that people are post surgery, we don't hear from them as much, which is understandable. Everyone is getting back to their busy lives & doing well!!! Everyone's progress has been at all different speeds, & we all have gotten down at times, but with this fantastic group the support has been wonderful!!! Its amazing how fast the body heals & I believe & will still be praying that your recovery will be quick! Thank-goodness you were in good shape to begin with!!!!! Before you know it you will be walking farther than ever!!! Me I seem to only be able to walk 30min. but today I'm going to go a little farther!!!! Good luck with the chili, it has helped me a lot!!! Mogwaicat 80 Posted November 14, 2015 Ooog...consider this a cautionary tale. Today I learned what it means to get 'stuck' and it was my own damn fault. Per my doc's instructions, I'm allowed to make a chicken quesadilla with low-fat cheese so long as the tortilla is done up crispy. So far so good, I've had this several times now with no issues at all. Today? I was dumb, was playing around on the internet while eating, and all of a sudden I get a sharp 'uh oh' kick behind the sternum. It's not like the 'full' feeling I get just under my ribs, this more like a strong squeezing discomfort that comes and goes as my esophagus and stomach try to push my mistake through. Even better (and fair warning, this is pretty gross...), I ended up salivating like crazy and vomiting up clear saliva several times. It doesn't really help, which was terribly annoying, but getting up and walking around the house with a bit of a bounce in my step helped. Riding it out, I was pretty uncomfortable for a little over an hour. Pretty sure I was overdue for this, haven't really had any issues so far other than being unable to handle whey Protein. Lesson learned, I hope. I really don't want to repeat this! I've heard that taking papaya enzymes when this happens can help, I think I might get some and stash them in my purse just in case... I can only eat half a quesadilla at a time, and I like them pretty heavy on the chicken. I sprinkle a little taco seasoning in while it's melting. I think I might just take the chicken and cheese and melt them in a custard cup with the taco seasoning and leave the tortilla for a while.
60&goin4it 931 Posted November 15, 2015 (edited) Here is a recipe I'm going to try for Thanksgiving that I found on this site, you may want to try it also! jjod 197 Posted November 15, 2015 Several observations. Since losing 40 lbs, I'm freezing cold all the time. Too funny!! I weigh less than my drivers license says (200) and I lied about that at the time. Weird. My joint pain is gone. Woohoo. I have reflux for the first time. Now I know what my husband's been describing all these years. Still low energy after 2.5 weeks. Very grateful. Body starting to feel less foreign.
60&goin4it 931 Posted November 15, 2015 @@jjod Wow your weight loss is great!!! I have heard that was a side effect being cold! I don't think I have lost enough weight yet to have that yet. Your lucky your in Cali! Pretty soon you will start having more energy. I just at 4 weeks started feeling like my old self!!
kvoneye 210 Posted November 15, 2015 @@Mogwaicat I know what you mean about getting stuck. I've been there on more than one occasion all because I get to eating too fast. The pain is horrible and you'd think I'd learn, but I've always been a fast eater. Smh. @@60&goin4it thanks for the recipe. Have you tried it yet and does the vanilla shake make it taste different? I haven't tried the premier shakes yet and am scared I won't like it.
60&goin4it 931 Posted November 15, 2015 @@kvoneye No I haven't tried it yet, going to for Thanksgiving. I like the premier shakes. I just recently started drinking a 1/2 cup of coffee & I fill the cup up with the vanilla preimere shake & warm a little more now that its getting cold. I drink the rest or have another coffee. It keeps my coffee amount down & the shake makes it sweet enough along with getting my Protein. I like the chocolate too & so does my husband. I do need them to be cold to drink straight.
