Hi, I'm Cheri, and I'm new here.

Recommended Posts

I am considering gastric bypass surgery and currently following through with all of the pre-surgery requirements. I have been heavy all my life. I feel like I have done every diet there is without reaching goal weight but coming close a few times. I have never kept it off, as so many of you can probably relate. I think that gaining the weight back is my biggest fear in this whole journey... I am very glad to know there is this supportive community to embrace others with these similar struggles.

Hi Cheri, that's my fear, too. But, it has taken me years to get to the point where I am finally ready to change my life forever, so I KNOW I won't gain it back. I went for a consultation 3 separate times before I ended up choosing bypass. I spent years contemplating, researching. I'm currently pre-op, on my 6th day of the 2 week liquid diet, and surgery is 10/8. I am so ready, and at peace with this life changing decision. I hope you find your peace.

@@cheri02 Your feeling are totally normal, we all go through those same feelings and fears when starting this journey. One of the best things to think about is the probabilities. Only 5% of obese people are able to lose weight and keep it off permanently by dieting. For those with gastric bypass surgery, 95% are able to eliminate 70% of their excess weight long-term. Those are darn good odds.

The main key to weight loss success is to follow your doctor's and nutritionist/dietitian's (NUT) directions. People who do that are successful, and people who don't aren't. Almost everyone you speak to who has had gastric bypass will tell you how it has changed their lives and how happy they are that they have had it. The first few months after the surgery are hard, no doubt about it, but it gets easier as you develop the appropriate habits and it integrates into your life.

Congratulations on your path, and welcome to the site. There are a lot of great people here, and we are all on the same journey.

@@cheri02 I am in the same boat and it's nice to hear from others that these feelings are normal! <3 I saw a surgeon in May for the free seminar but stopped there. Now I'm ready again but meeting with a different surgeon on Thursday!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
