What was your turning point when you knew surgery was the answer? Also what was your highest weight?

For me it was basically wanting to be able to keep up with my son. He's 6 and fast. He loves to play. Between my back, hip and side hurting I'm losing time enjoying the things he likes. I'm been big my whole life so it's just time for a change. At my highest weight I was 372. I'm now at 316 pre surgery. How about you?

I had tried everything and anything to lose weight. Some with success but gained it all back and then some. I think the turning point for me was seeing a friend have surgery and seeing all of her success and how great she looks/feels. I got to the point where I didn't even want to leave the house because I was so self conscious and felt like everyone was staring at me all the time. I didn't do things with my husband or kids I became the hermit who sat at home and ready or watched TV while they enjoyed their lives. NO MORE!! I am only down 33lbs but I am ready to get out there and do all of the things they are doing and love life again.

Heaviest Weight was 240. I'm 5'7. Pre Surgery weight was 236 and I am at 204 now. Yes, I will tell you that the first week was hell on earth for me. I cried and cried and regretted my decision, the first month was hard but bearable and I am at 6 weeks on Thursday and tell you that I would do it again in a heartbeat. Knowing the misery I went through and the re-hospitalization for dehydration and everything I would do it again. I am so excited to see what 3 months brings, and 6 months and 1 year and so on. BEST DECISION EVER!!!

My highest weight was 235. I have gone up and down in my weight my whole life, but at 47, it was finally taking a toll on my health. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and pre diabetes and put on meds. I didn't want to die early from heart problems like both my parents, so I decided to do something once and for all.

I knew quite a bit about WLS already because my husband had an RNY 8 years earlier and was very successful losing 100+ pounds and keeping it off.

I'm 29 and I have degenerative disc disease and bulging discs in the L4, L5 and S1 areas. I also have fallen arches in my feet related to obesity, also affecting my back. I got so fat and lazy that I didn't even know who I was anymore. I am always in pain, which causes me to be short. I have 2 beautiful little girls, 6 and 12 months. I started to see my 6 year old acting just like me, in good ways and bad. I saw her picking up my bad habits. I saw myself being short with her. After my second epidural injection in my spine I just decided I had enough. This is crazy. If I don't lose this weight now, I'll be a very sick disabled person by the time I'm 40!!! I'm changing for myself, but mostly my family. It's not too late, so here I go!!! Surgery is 10/8, my highest weight was 276. Currently 259.

For me I battled weight my whole life I tried every diet under the sun. In 1999 my mom had gastric bypass went from 400lb to 150lb she's been such an inspiration to me. I have spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease which over the years has gotten worse. My surgeons can't do any surgery to repair anything until I lose a good amount of weight. I also have 2 yr old twins I need to keep up with. I want to enjoy life again. I want to be able to go to the zoo and not be in so much pain with the weight I'm carrying around.

Has your mom kept the weight off?

My favorite YouTube doctor, Dr Weiner, says that people who have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, sister) who were successful with their surgeries are a lot more likely to be successful with their own :) Good news, hu?

My highest weight was the day of my first appointment - 268. I was an athlete growing up and into college (gymnastics) and surprisingly for my weight, I am still pretty agile. But I'm so tired of being fat. I own a cake company and I know people judge me and assume that I'm fat because I bake. I take SUCH CARE to NOT eat what I bake. I think I've had 5 cupcakes in the past YEAR. I'm tired of waking up in the morning and digging for clothes that fit. I have a beautiful in-ground pool that I've never been in because I don't want the neighbors to see me in a bathing suit. But most importantly, I want to be healthy. I have the most amazing husband and I want to be able to spend another 50 years with him. We're retiring in 3 years - I'll be 51. Too young to not enjoy life! We have 6 kids - I want to do things with them when we go on family vacations. I'm so excited for the journey ahead - and I know it will be hard work. But so well worth it.

Oh I have a list so it wasn't just one thing. It all just kept added up till I couldn't take it anymore. I'd say just being fat in general was a burden. Highest ever was 301 but I was pregnant, not pregnant 267 which is what I weighed on day one of this journey.

For me it was my trip to Dubai. We were staying at the Atlantis, and my husband and kids were at the Water park. I was sitting in my hotel room looking out over the Gulf and I didn't want to leave the room. That was the moment I finally decided this is ridiculous! I was tired of missing out on life. I made the appointment to get a surgical referral a couple weeks after I got back.

My turning point was in June of 2012.

I was on a cruise and sitting on the edge of the bed, wearing a whit T-shirt.

I looked sideways at myself in the mirror and I looked like a big white bag of garbage.

My life was already miserable enough, between the constant head hunger,

feeling trapped by my weight in a job I hated,

limited mobility and the random pains in my knees and feet.

I just couldn't see myself living that way for another year.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
