Weight gain 4 yrs post rny

Recommended Posts

I had my rny in 2011 and went from all time high of 412 lbs to 245. I had kept it off until last year, when I started to put it back on. I have gained back about 35lbs. I am having trouble getting back on track and getting my weight off. I gave a few other medical conditions that could be playing a part but honestly, it is mostly me. Can anyone offer some advice to help me get back on track and get some weight off

Set a plan. Schedule your exercise, even if that is walking 3 miles a day - do it at the same time every day without excuses. Personally I got a dog so no matter how much I may want to sit on my ass, he needs to go outside for a walk and he's a pretty big motivator since its walk or clean up a mess.

Have you worked with a therapist in the past? I know the one I see specifically works with post-op patients who have gained weight (in addition to pre-op and initial post-op like me). You might seek that out....

I would recommend finding a support group. Being accountable and sharing your issues and triumphs with other people who know what you're dealing with can help so, so much.

I would recommend finding a good therapist that you feel comfortable talking to. For me, I had a really hard past full of pain and abandonment and abuse. These issues make it really hard for me to keep the weight off because instead of dealing with my issues, I stuffed them down and packed them right with food for comfort. Your reasons may be subtle or they could be brutally obvious, but I think there is definitely some baggage you need to free yourself of to make it work. Also finding a good support group will help and maybe a friend or two to be accountable to.

In addition to all of the above comments, which I agree with completely, you want to review your eating plan. Are you eating a low-carb, low-fat diet? Are you eating three discrete meals a day, or are you grazing throughout the day? Grazing is the most common reason for weight gain after surgery.

Take a look at the following blog:

She has some wonderful ideas, including great recipes.

@toasty. I can go to the link but it then takes me to the Internet and won't load. It looks like a great page. Any suggestions?

Never mind I got it to stay. That was strange.

To the original poster and the last poster who said they gained weight. I have some questions? Did you start off on high Protein and low carb, and no drinking after meals? What happened that you gained weight? Did you start adding junk food or drinking calories? I am only 2 months post-op, but as soon as I eat a small piece of cake for my birthday or such, I don't lose any weight for 5-8 days. I have to tract my food on myfitnesspal everyday, even when I grab a bite of something I shouldn't eat. My calories may be around 600 a day, but if I eat junk, I won't lose.

I have to be honest, I have fallen off the wagon, so to speak. My choices aren't the best but aren't terrible. I think I just need to start over with my week one post op diet and reset my pouch

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
