I am 3 weeks post op and got the go ahead after week one to eat soft Proteins. I ate scrambled eggs and after just a few bites I felt sick. My Surgeon said to try again in two weeks which I did...a few bites and I am over the toilet throwing up. Anyone else have issues with eggs? does it go away? I gots to have my scrambled eggs!

Maybe a few bites is all you need. My nutritionist teaches what she calls the green light yellow light red light bite. And says that when you hit that slight sensation that things are different which can be very subtle in the beginning, that if you push it through that "yellow bite" and take another it will either A-come back up or B- linger in pain for as long as 5hrs. Also, I've heard it said that eggs in particular can be hard in the beginning and that scrambled eggs are actually harder than an over easy egg cooked in Pam. Maybe try a different prep and see if that changes things or give it a rest and come back to it in a few more weeks?

First couple weeks post-op, I couldn't eat scrambled eggs at all. I would become naseous. I was heartbroken. I thought I may have lost them forever.

But I'm about 10 weeks out now, and I'm able to eat them again. I don't choose them as often as before, but every once in a while I can enjoy a full scrambled egg.

I agree that it's about the prep! Omlette was a no go (just tried egg and cheese), but over easy are ok for me! Also, if they are dried out forget it. :)

My NUT told me that the two things that are most commonly not tolerated early on are chicken and eggs. I can eat eggs fine (I cook one egg scrambled with milk, as advised to make it more moist, and eat about a third of it). But when I tried to eat chicken (it was even pureed), I threw it up almost immediately.

Once I threw up, my pouch was very angry, and I had to go on clear liquid diet for a day and full liquids for two days before I could stand the pureed stage again.

Yes I had major issues with eggs early out. I tried them once a week for a while and then gave up. About six or seven months out I tried again and have had no issues ever since.

I am 12 months post op and still cannot tolerate eggs. They just simply do not sit well with me however I have been eating chicken since the puréed stage and it is one of my favorite Proteins.

I don't know how to explain it but as you " eggs, No Bueno!"

By the way, I have tried them scrambled, an omelet, poached, over easy scrambled with other stuff. Egg custard.

I pureed my scrambled egg in a blender and ate it very slowly. I also made pureed egg salad and it was good too.

I'm more than two years post-op and eggs and chicken are still a little hit and miss. I tend to opt for chicken thigh meat rather than breast meat because it's so much more moist, and am usually OK now with scrambled eggs, but boiled eggs tend to feel quite heavy in my pouch. Randomly, scrambled eggs still do sometimes, too, but that's happening less often. Which is great, since eggs are such good protein!

Initially I was able to tolerate eggs and I really enjoyed them. This was from week 3 postop till about week 8 or so. And now? Forget it. I didn't change the way I prepare them, and I actually changed from the "extra large" to "large" size and I can barely eat half of one before I feel gross. I've temporarily given up one them. And chicken. And bananas.

I'm 5 months post-op and still can't tolerate scrambled eggs. What I have been eating since week 3 post-op is my delicious Magic Crust quiche. It is very moist and flavorful. As a matter of fact, I had a piece for lunch today with a side of my squash casserole (181 calories/16g protein). It is a staple in my diet and my go-to meal when I need something quick. While it's a little labor intensive to make, it only takes a minute 20 seconds in the microwave to heat up! Here's the recipe with the Nutrition info and a couple of pics:

Magic Crust Quiche - Ham

Ingredients

2 cups 1% Lowfat Milk

1/2 cup All-purpose flour

5 large eggs

1/2 cup 2% Reduced Fat Pepper Jack cheese shredded

1/2 cup 2% Reduced Fat Swiss cheese shredded

1/2 cup 2% Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar Cheese shredded

7 oz Ham diced small

1/4 cup Cooked red bell pepper diced small

1/4 cup Cooked Vidalia or sweet onion diced small

Preheat oven to 350˚. In a blender or NutriBullet, mix eggs, milk and flour until blended, season with salt, pepper, taco seasoning or whatever you’d like. In a bowl combine all cheeses, cooked meat and cooked veggies. Now add blended mixture and stir to combine. Pour into an 8”x8” or 9”x9” square glass dish. Bake for 50-55 minutes. Let stand 5-10 before serving. You can add whatever cheeses, veggies or meats suit your taste. The small amount of flour firms up the sides and bottom making the “magic crust” while saving tons of calories. The Nutrition Facts are based on recipe above. FYI - the heavier meats, like ground beef, tend to fall to the bottom. Serving size is approximately 2”x2 1/2”

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
