Lexuskela 158 Posted September 28, 2015 How much do you work out? I am 10 weeks post op.... Just wondering how much everyone does. I see some do, some don't. Just wondering who does & what? I know Doc's say too much will hinder loss because of muscle gain.
Remix 153 Posted September 28, 2015 I'm 11 weeks out. For weeks 4-9 exercising like crazy. I hit a stall week 8 and figured it was muscle gain. I do a couch to 5K running app, lane swim, and kayak. I was working out 5-6 days each week but now that I'm stalled I'm slacking a little. I know I need to add strength training too but I'm procrastinating on that. Swimming is awesome because you don't sweat as much and it's easier on the joints, etc. But it's still an amazing workout. Kayaking is an excellent arm workout and so so fun, plus the scenery is amazing. I'm sad to live in a place where I can't do it year round. The season has pretty much come to a close. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted September 28, 2015 I was walking in recovery and resumed acquafit classes by week 3. I never heard of a doctor saying it would hinder weight loss. I currently work out anywhere from 4 - 6 days a week and do a variety from strength training, core work and aerobic/cardio.
Lexuskela 158 Posted September 28, 2015 No meaning it will build muscle & the pounds will not come down because muscle is heavier & also because when you workout heavy you need to eat more to support it. We are not eating enough calories to truly workout heavy HEAVY .... So that's what he meant. It would hinder the process. If you excessively exercise thinking you are helping the process you can be damaging your process. Your body needs the extra calories for extra rigorous exercises. ???? Lexuskela 158 Posted September 28, 2015 But yes my Doc does support getting moving & cardio & working out. ????
Gaelsmom 100 Posted September 28, 2015 With the amount of calories being ingested, it would be difficult to actually add muscle mass. The great thing you would be doing is stopping any further muscle mass breakdown in your body. When you lose 1lb, not all of it is fat. Some is muscle. It's best not to lose the muscle and have the skinny fat problem.

I work out heavy enough to sweat on my cardio days. ETA: Unless you are working out at body building levels, exercise isn't going to hinder your weight loss. sparkles1971 47 Posted September 29, 2015 A number on the scale is just that...a number. Exercise is a must for healthy lungs and heart. I did up my calories a bit when I started working out...I just don't ever see how it can be a hindrance. It is about lifestyle change for long term.
sleevenv 483 Posted September 29, 2015 I've never been a runner. Never! At week two I started doing three 5k walks a week. By week four I was running/walking on the tread mill. Now at week 13, I am running three times a week with no walking. Each time I get on I try to shave off a few seconds. I've never been so happy or proud about myself. I actually look forward to running because I'm friggin doing it! I do some core work with planks and a few weight machines. My legs are slim and shapely all due to the running. It's amazing how these changes are encouraging me to hit the gym!

It's amazing how these changes are encouraging me to hit the gym!I have been doing pretty similar workouts except now I run every time I do cardio. I use map my walk which I love cause I can hear and see the progress. It gives you the minute miles which is fun when u go quicker than the day before. I also added a little distance. Was doing 2 miles and now aiming for 3! I really enjoy it and gets my blood pumping without it killing me! Like I thought it would! Feels great to do in this nice Chicago weather! Back to hot weather in Phoenix tomorrow! Good luck, btw my goal is a 5K before Christmas!

sleevenv 483 Posted September 29, 2015 I also use an app called Spring. It plays music (you can pick the genres and artists) and you tell it whether you're walking or running and it'll play songs at the exact beats per minute for your pace. It's awesome and FREE. My gym has free wifi so I don't use data either!
