Liquid pain med for home

Recommended Posts

Do folks usually leave the hospital with some liquid RX pain medication for the next few days after surgery? I have some liquid adult Tylenol, but what if I need something stronger?

Thanks for any replys:)

Janiee,

Don't worry--it's pretty standard to send you home with a prescription. My doctor prescribed Roxicet solution which is oxycodone and tylenol. I was fortunate because I never needed anything for pain. I hope the same holds true for you. Good luck!

I am going to my last surgeon appt tomorrow before my surgery on the 19th of July. So I will try not to forget to ask about it.:)

I got a liquid vicodin prescription (hydrocodone) and then bought liquid tylenol - Amazon has it so I ordered two bottles online. Good thing too. The vicodin makes me a bit naseous so I only used it the first day or so. The liquid tylenol and tylenol PM have been great - but I've gone through one bottle of LT in about a week.

Good luck

MM

I'm 3 days postop; my surgeon gave me 2 RX at my pre-op appt. Thought I wouldn't need them, but the little angel on my shoulder made me get them anyway; THANK GOD. One was a suppository anti-nausea; the other liquid lortab. Take the suppository BEFORE you feel sick. Take it when you get home and take it every six hours (or as prescribed). Day One the lortab made me sick and yes, I puked. Scared me to death. It happened on 3 separate occassions. Of course I'm worried I dislodged the band; but nothing can be done about it now. Called the nurse and she made me feel a bit better, not to worry about dislodging, the swelling probably would have held it in place the first day. So, now to try and get something down....:cry

I got 2 prescriptions when I went for my final consultation with the surgeon. He gave me liquid Roxicet and liquid phenergen. I have been nauseous twice so I was very glad that I got the meds.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
