Joint pain

Recommended Posts

Im 2 weeks post op and every joint hurts. It is particularly noticeable when I lay down at night. Is this normal? Have other people gone through this? It isn't a sharp stabbing pain, just sore like its bruised kind of pain. Thanks.

After surgery it was difficult to sleep. I found that slipping a pillow between my legs at night helped. Also after losing weight, my extra padding was gone so that when I sat in a chair or in a car for a while it became somewhat painful. I am now using a gel cushion (from Bed Bath and Beyond) and it works fairly well.

I am officially 12 months post op as of Saturday. I have lost 121lbs so far and have about 25 to go to get to my ultimate goal.

I have definately noticed a lot more joint pain but it has changed. Before surgery it was severe in my ankles and knees. I also have it in my hips, spine and shoulders.

I no longer have joint pain in my ankles and knees unless I go really crazy and over exercise. My shoulders, hips and spine however are much worse.

I do however have Psoriatic arthritis which is an autoimmune disease that I have had for years so I don't really know how much that is impacting me at this point.

I will say to Jame's point, from month 2 on, my behind is actually extremely painful. When you lose this much weight your tailbone begins to stick out.i no longer have any padding in my rear, in fact my husband keeps laughing at me because my butt is completely flat. Jokingly, I will say I went from fat ass to flat ass!

I cannot sit comfortably with using a A pillow designed to provide relief. I bought mine on Amazon, it is called a Coccyx pillow.

I have not tried a gel cusion but may have to give that a try.

I know the tailbone thing is a big issue for many on this site.

At just two weeks out, that is different. I would probably check in with my doc. I can't imagine what it could be. People have so many different physical responses to the surgery in the beginning. But I would check in with the urge on to put my mind at ease.

Yep! I've had that too especially when I wake up. Didn't have the problem before surgery. I'm 2 months post op. It's starting to get better now.

I read somewhere that people do experience this due to rapid weight loss, something to do with connective tissue and yadda yadda ... sorry I don't have an official place to quote.

I'm not too worried about it. My body is like "what are we doing"! I figure it's all changing and moving, redistributing but def see your doc if you need to!

This is probably not the appropriate place to ask but SunIn Utah, is that your cat? Makes me laugh every time I see the photo. I always have had Siamese.

I think I figured out why this happens to me, at least. When I don't get enough Protein, my knees start to hurt. When I get back to the recommended amount, it stop after two or three days of being consistent.

Were you taking any meds for it prior to surgery that you've not resumed taking ?

How is you mobility been these last two weeks? Joints can sometimes get stiff and painful if they aren't used as much.

I had great mobility and had not been on any meds. My pharmacist told me it can be a side effect of the lovanox. A week or so after it went away.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
