Leesa926 72 Posted September 28, 2015 So I have to quit smoking at least 6 weeks before surgery. I am hoping surgery is Dec/Jan so I got a prescription for Chantix which I am planning on starting tomorrow but very nervous. I do want to quit and I want surgery more than I want to smoke so I have that extra incentive but scared to fail. Anyone quit for surgery or planning on it? Just figured I would reach out! Thanks! AngelaWilliamsMD 290 Posted September 28, 2015 I don't smoke, but both of my parents do. When Chantix first came out, I was so excited to get them to try it. According to them, the medication takes away the will to want to smoke. They were able to be smoke free for a month though, and then started up again off the medication. It can cause some weird side effects, so be careful!
valcatlett4 33 Posted September 29, 2015 I also had to quit for surgery. I started taking the chantix and picked a quit date of a week later. I wanted the surgery more than the cigarettes. I was a 2 pack a day smoker when I quit. I am 9 weeks post op, quitting was the best thing I could have done for myself ! Good luck! You can do it !
