I was just wondering from those that are post op how the first couple of weeks post surgery went regarding weight loss. Two weeks prior to my surgery I lost 15 lb. my surgery was 9/16/15 and I've lost 7 lb. is that norm? Do you feel I should have lost more? I'm still on liquids and I have no gauge if I'm losing correctly, too slow or just about right. Thanks for any imput.

I had my surgery the same day as you. I refuse to get on the scale at home. They weighed me at my one week follow up and I was pleasantly surprised and that is how I want to keep doing it. If I use my home scale I will psych myself out. I have a lot more to worry about right now than those numbers on the scale....like getting my Proteins and Water and trying to advance my diet.

I lost 23 pounds during my three-month supervised diet and 10 day liquid diet. I gained eight pounds in the hospital from IV fluids. It took me a week to lose that. The second week I lost another seven pounds. The third week I hit the "dreaded third week stall" which lasted through the fourth week. Finally at week five I started losing three or four pounds a week. At six months the dynamic changed and the weight started falling off in milligrams.

It has taken me almost two years to get close to goal, but I could not have lost this weight any other way. Our bodies and circumstances are so different that it is fruitless to compare ourselves to the lucky folks who lose a hundred pounds the first six months.

For example, I am older than most bariatric patients and have orthopedic issues that hinder consistent exercise. Someone else may be taller (or shorter) or not have a good support network. Medications make a difference. When I take Lyrica for sciatica acting up, I may as well just tape my food to my hips in spite of my other efforts. If I take a pain pill (hydrocodone) I get so sick to my stomach that I can barely eat at all.

Just relax and follow the plan that your bariatric team gave you. I wish you good luck and good health. You have come to the right place for encouragement and support.

This was me. Until my 6 mth f/u I only got weighed when I went to the doctor's. After that it was once a month or at the doctor's whichever came first. It was a blessing not to stress over numbers on a scale. Now that I am a year out and my next follow up isn't until next year, I plan to continue that. I will only get weighed once a month or at the doctor's, which ever is first. It's just much less stressful for me.

I GAINED 5 pounds my first week after surgery. Please do NOT try to compare yourself to anyone else's story. This is YOUR weight loss and YOUR body. Everyone is different. Comparing yourself will make you crazy!! I compare myself to my husband to a lady I work with to others that have had the surgery. Then I saw this thing that had 8 different women that weighed the same amount. Everyone looks different. As long as your are following your plan then it is a success.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
