Premier Protein ready-to-drink and Syntrax Nectars mix in the large tub.

Premier Protein are tasty and convenient. The Syntrax comes in a huge variety of flavors. I love the Cappuccino flavor over lots of ice for Breakfast. The caribbean cooler is like pina colada flavor. Fuzzy Navel reminds me of Tang. They are a nice change from Chocolate/vanilla.

I try to use things like silk as a treat to my shakes, I love things like Premier but they are way overpriced for me, so I use a Vitamin Shoppe brand, same thing fraction of the cost, I use Water in my shakes and milk 2% or silk twice a week, if you like coffee and chocolate try this,

1or 2 scoops chocolate Protein

1 packet folgers instant Decaf

1/4 cup Silk

1/3 cup water

2 tablespoons French vanilla liquid Creamer

And ice

Pour in shaker bottle or preferably a blender and serve immediately

, makes a great frappacino

I like using Trader Joe's ice coffee in GNC's no sugar chocolate Protein powder. A little vanilla extract, to really kick it up a notch, half of a Oikos triple zero coconut or vanilla yogurt. Better than a Starbucks frap. 260 calories, 33g of Protein.

Sample a variety. Think about if RTD or powdered better fits into your lifestyle and pocketbook. I was using almond milk, but stopped since it was too low of a Protein payoff for the carbs it contains. I already had a nutra bullet because I drink Protein shakes pre-gym. That may not be an expense you want to make if you won't use it after the early post-op stages. Popular brands are Premier Protein, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, GENEPRO, Isopure and Syntrax nectar. However there are a zillion other brands out there. Make sure you speak to your nutritionist about what they recommend. Mine wanted me to make sure that the one I chose either had whey or soy isolates since that is the most concentrated form of Protein. She said to make sure to not get concentrates. She also gave me guidelines as to nutrition levels per serving. I think it was at least 15 gms Proteins, and no more than 6 gms of sugar. I would have to double check my binder to be sure.

I found I needed some unflavored protein as the constant sweet of the drinks was too much for me after a week. Being able to have vegetable broth or non chunky Soup with a scoop of unflavored protein was a welcome break.

I also liked the Isopure teas because I needed something non milk based.

Save all receipts. Most stores will accept unused portions if you decide you do not like them.

Since people are sharing, here's my iced coffee/mock frap/mock coolata recipe.

I buy a med Dunkin Donuts coffee with cream. Cool then pour into ice cube trays.

1 scoop of CVS chocolate whey

¼ - ½ cup of FAGE 0% plain greek yogurt depending on taste

4 - 6 ice cubes (a traditional ice cube is ~ 1 ounce)

just enough Water to blend.

Throw the whole thing in the nutra bullet.

Based on 6 cubes and ½ cup of yogurt your totals are: 242 calories 14 carbs 4 fat 39 protein 111 sodium 7 sugar

If you want to cut calories and carbs try ¼ cup and 4 cubes.

I do this for pre-gym, drink half and drink the rest post workout for recovery. At 39 gms of protein I have now gotten in most of my protein before noon.

When I talked with my surgeon at the seminar. He said he likes all his patients in the program before surgery to be on Protein shakes. Preferably the whey brand 2x daily with a sensible dinner lots of veggies and fruits.

My surgeon is similar.

I'm drinking two shakes a day and high Protein food every 3 hours.

Does he specify whey isolate or are concentrates allowed?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
