Throwing up after 4th fill

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had my band filled to 5.5 cc's. Then two days ago, I went fill again because I felt I was eating too much still. The nurse added 1 cc.

The morning of the fill I ate an egg mcmuffin. After the fill, I tried to eat Soup, or even drink juice, and I can't keep anything down. I feel so sick until I barf it up. The next day (today) I am still not able to eat anything. Whatever I try, causes me to feel aweful and want to throw up. If I don't throw up, I feel real bad -

any ideas what is happening - what to do?

Sounds like you were a bit ambitious on the egg mcmuffin - a VERY difficult thing to eat when you're well filled. You may have caused some irritation. Can you keep liquids down yet? If you can, a few days on liquids may calm everything down and you may be fine to get going (carefully) on solids.

If you're even having trouble with liquids, I'd be back to your doc straight away to have some fill removed.

I've never had this happen to me but I wouldnt muck around, you can get dehydrated very quickly and all the vomiting is not good for your band.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Wow, I've never been able to eat anything of that substance. I would talk to my Doc. Maybe you are at the right place now and your food intake will slow way down. If I even eat a little to much at one time I will be sick. At my Docs office when you have a fill you are required to be on a liquid diet and mushies for two days after. I hope this helps a little. Good Luck.

I'm not sure if this would help but with my Doc you can have liquids up to 4 hours before a fill and then nothing until the fill, then liquids for 48 hours... If you still can't keep even liquid down then I think you need to go back and maybe get a small unfill until it settles down... Keep us updated.

Thanks for you replys - I went to my doctor this morning and she defilled it 5cc's. I felt better right away - and I even ate lunch and I was fine. I will live with this fill for a few weeks before I see if I need to tighten it - and if I do, I will make sure I don't eat anything close to my fill time.

Take care

hi,... i went through that and i personally think you should call your surgeon at the hospital because it could be anything your band could be to tight or on the verge of slipping. mine was so bad i went to see a different surgeon at albany med and he wond up taking my band out, so my stomach can heal up and do the bypass on me. hugs Ann38

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
