Has anyone had severe IBS or just any undiagnosed stomach issues (cramping, bloating, Constipation and diarrhea) before surgery, and has surgery made it better or worse?

I have been wondering the same thing, tomorrow is my surgery day so I guess I'll be finding out soon enough! But would still love to hear from others about their experiences as well. ????

I had severe IBS for years. I was sleeved three months ago and also had my gall bladder removed. My IBS is almost completely gone. When I have a rare episode it is directly caused by specific foods. Unfortunately, whey Protein Shakes are a trigger. I can drink an occasional one, but never two or more in a two day period. There are a few other things that bother me, but the beauty is it is so easy to track now.

I have IBS... I went daily before surgery. Would get stomach aches & cramping, bloating the whole nine yards. Now since surgery I was constipated after surgery, had to take Miralax to get myself to start going again!!!! If I don't take it for a few days I get constipated immediately! So my Doc said take miralax once a day every day or every other day to keep it normal. Its just crazy the difference! I do not have bloating.... I have had a few occasional cramps...but never lasted all day like before surgery. I feel so much better since surgery.

I had IBS for at least 15 years before my surgery. Now that I am 6 months post op, I have no signs of my old behaviour. Sure I had some diarrhea right after surgery but I think that was my Protein shakes and not IBS. I have no needed any of my meds ever....

I had IBS for 11 years and I was sleeved almost a year ago and have not had one single episode. I tell my husband this surgery was worth every dime just for that let alone the weight loss. (I was self pay)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
