francheskii 28 Posted September 27, 2015 I am almost 3 months post op and I find myself snacking in between meals. I eat 3x a day and my Snacks consist of deli turkey meat with string cheese, green Beans, or even crackers. Should I be snacking this early on? And I'm still having trouble taking Protein everyday and enough Water. Anyone else??
Djmohr 6,965 Posted September 27, 2015 The reason you are probably snacking so much is because you are not getting your Protein. It is that dense Protein from food that will fill you up and keep you full. I went through this as well right around the same time. My nut suggested 2 bites of protein for every 1 bite of good carbs like vegetables and fruit. 3 meals a day. If you get hungry in between which should not yet be the case but it is possible, try drinking 8 oz. of milk for your snack.< /p> Milk turns to a solid filling you up and provides protein. You might even try fair life milk which has added protein to it. This will help you get to your protein goal. You also should ask yourself am I really hungry or am I dehydrated? Dehydration causes the exact symptoms of hunger. When you get that feeling in between meals, drink Water or crystal light until it goes away. If that feeling comes back right away, drink that cup of milk. You are likely dealing with head hunger or dehydration.
francheskii 28 Posted September 29, 2015 Update: so day 1 of no snacking went well. I think it was mostly mind hunger before...I stayed full with Water and Protein, and ate 3 small meals today. Hopefully day 2 goes as well. We'll see...
beachgal2935 596 Posted October 1, 2015 @@francheskii I couldn't agree more with Djmohr! We were taught at mayo to have 3 meals and 2 high Protein Snacks every day. That's what I've done and at 5 months post-op it's working just fine. I'm never hungry and get an average of 120-125 grams of Protein in every day while staying between 800-850 calories. I've included a page out of my "Nutritional Guidelines" book given to us which breaks down every stage of the diet. Hope it helps. Congrats and keep on your successful weight loss journey
