Does anyone else have to attend a Bari Boot Camp like I do? I've never heard of this in all the research I've done about VSG. I'm doing it the week before surgery. Anyone have any ideas of what it would entail?

I had to do a diet/exercise session that explained post-op diet stages and appropriate exercise levels. It was a couple hours in length.

I had to do a full-day class -- nutrition, exercise, eating / drinking phases, etc.

Is that what your boot camp will be like?

I had to attend two classes, each was about 3 hours, and on separate days because they wanted to make sure you absorbed all the info.

I had to do 24 weekly 90 minute classes as part of my requirements.

I had a 3 hour nutrition class but that was it. What does the Bari Boot Camp consist of?

I had to do 24 weekly 90 minute classes as part of my requirements.

What did these classes cover?

The classes covered everything from the different surgery options, nutrition, exercise, body image, support systems, cross addictions, reading and understanding food labels and ingredients, meditation, life after surgery, emotional health, adjusting to change, etc., and my personal favorite: guest speakers from prior classes who had already had their surgeries done.

The material provided was at times pretty basic. Information wise, I feel I learned much more from my own research. But going through the experience with my fellow classmates was invaluable. I was in the hospital at the same time with three of them, and we're still in touch today.

I would think any additional education would be great. Boot camp or not.

But I really came in to say I like your user name. Made me smile. :)

If it's like @ThePostOp's experience it sound like something that could be quite helpful. We get binders in my program, but I think for some folks getting the info bit by bit might be more helpful.

I got a binder the Surgeon gave me on my first visit. It explains all that The Post Op wrote about. As for the Psych I have had 3 and she wants to keep seeing me up to surgery and even after if I need her. I might just take her up on that offer as long as my insurance will continue to pay for all but the $10.00 co pay

I kind of feel like my doc isn't sharing any info about post op until my pre op appt. I think that's too late. I mean, should we know what's expected of us WAY before a week prior to surgery??

@, I've had one appt with a nutritionist and it was about the pre op diet. I have a 6 hr appt with her 2 weeks before surgery which I know will include all the post op stuff. Just feel like this is a little late.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
