I am almost 2 1/2 weeks post op and I find I can pretty much chug Water with no pain. Is this normal?? I feel like it's too soon to be able to do that. Should I not chug water?

I also drank some water while eating (not thinking) and I found that didn't bother me either. Anyone else having the same thing happen?

Don't chug Water. It may not hurt (for some reason) but it could be a bad habit to get started again. (I suppose it depends on what you mean by chugging but more than an ounce in one sip isn't a good idea. By 2 1/2 weeks it seems reasonable that you could drink 16 oz in an hour though.)

Don't drink while you eat. The rule doesn't apply because "it will bother you". It applies because a) it can take up space in your stomach when you are trying to get sufficient Protein and food in and B) it will too quickly wash the nutrients out of your stomach. Stop 15-20 minutes before you eat and at least 30 minutes after. It takes getting used to, but eventually it becomes habit. I set a timer when I finish eating for 30 minutes and don't drink until timer goes off.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
