fairgge 3 Posted September 26, 2015 So I'm 10 weeks post-op from bypass, and two weeks post-op from gallbladder removal. Before the gallbladder came out, I had trouble with nausea and dry heaves. Surgery was supposed to clear that up, and did - for one glorious day. Then the dry heaves came back worse than before. Nausea's not bad though. My surgeon said it's due to the ulcer they discovered during a post-bypass EGD. I'm on Carafate now, as of yesterday. He said it could take weeks to heal, but in the meantime I get so weakened by these dry heaving spells, I'm shaking all the time! Usually it seems to be caused by gas - every time I take even a sip of Water, I dry heave uncontrollably. And the dry heaving goes on until the gas is burped up. I am praying that someone here has been through this, and can give me some tips on dealing! Or at least assurance that it won't last forever. I haven't been able to go to work in three weeks because of the weakness. I want my life back!!!!
Veronica_mm 87 Posted September 26, 2015 Ask them to give you some meds for the nausea. I'm surprised they haven't already. Get well! ; (

tberger74 4 Posted October 19, 2015 I am healing from an ulcer as well. Same symptoms as you .... I take protonix 3x a day and carafate. I was given Zofram for the nausea but it wasnt worth it as it caused horrible headaches. It takes weeks to feel SIGNIFICANTLY better, but days to feel better. Good luck and I hope you feel better! Dar200 285 Posted October 21, 2015 Zofran does nothing for me. I Insist on Phenergan. They don't like to prescribe it because it causes drowsiness but the times I've needed it I was so thankful to feel drowsy and be able to sleep. It is an old drug, originally used as an antihistamine. So it is very inexpensive and works like a miracle for me.
Dar200 285 Posted October 21, 2015 Or maybe some of the Patches for nausea? I'm so sorry you are going thru that. I think being that nauseous is just about the worst I've ever felt in my life.
Homecie 41 Posted October 24, 2015 I too have been suffering from an ulcer. Take the same as most of the folks above. It takes a while to feel better. I found it is imparitive that you take the carafate the right way, for me 4xs daily and on empty stomach. Also take the prilosec at a higher dosage than normal and that helps too.
