Ii was able to do mild sauce at six weeks. I tried jalapeno poppers at six months and was miserable for a couple of days. No more for me.

I started adding Sriracha to my chicken broth within a couple of days of surgery and never looked back. It never gave me any problems. That said, I have been eating very spicy food my entire life and it never gave me any trouble before surgery either.

I join the others in enjoying spicy foods, salsa, and hot sauce. I have eaten them since about 4 weeks out. I was spicing up broths/soups after the first week. I never had an issue, but I also take an acid blocker daily.

I actually seem to have a greater tolerance for spicy food now than I did before surgery for some reason. I got a spicy tofu dish at a Chinese restaurant awhile back (I think I was about 6 weeks out from surgery), and when my husband tried a bite, he couldn't believe I was able to eat it... but it didn't seem that spicy to me!

Another siracha eater here. I love all things spicy. I think people are warned against it because of concerns with acid. It was never an issue for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
